I'm not sure which deuces game or bonus games you are referring to, but, in general, the decrease in payback of a penalty free strategy is only a few hundredths of a percent.

I think it is also important to remember that "strategy" is calculated assuming play over the "long term", i.e. thousands of hands, not a three hour session. I think many of us count on playing the best strategy we can over the short haul and HOPE,HOPE, HOPE for some short term luck.
