Re: valet parking

Interesting posts. The Mercedes could have been driven briefly every day on a valet break or lunch time so valet would not be missed or fired. Using a trip odometer seems to give more credibility to owner's claim than the figures on his odometer. Valet was probably not thinking of looking at trip odometer, let alone changing it. We are bleary-eyed when we return sleeping on a red-eye flight after four days of casinos. We are lucky if we remember which car we drove and our parking lot, let alone the space. We would not usually be thinking of the gas gauge or odometer and assume this is typical of others. So maybe valet assumes car use would not be noticed. When we leave for a road trip we "always" set the trip odometer and when we return we "always" forget to check it. Never heard of the road tastes expression before and have been around the auto industry for a long time. It was an AP story and we will probably miss the outcome of the investigation.

Marie, you never wondered what was taking the mechanic so long to road test your car?

faygo, Frankly, no! Mr Wonderful (not his REAL name, in fact, he never gets called that) takes care of all that fun stuff. I just happily drive all the time! I assumed it was a special inside title to the trade.

Guys, USE the valet park.  Some LV properties only have security cameras in the valet area.  If you tip them when you drop off your car, and ask them to keep your car close by, the chances are you won't have to wait too long for pick-up.  Some casinos have a phone number you can call ahead to have your car ready.  (That is, if you're dumb enough to go somewhere like Caesars on the strip).  In a previous post I talked about our car being broken into while it was in self-park.  The security people had no video.  They suggested we always valet park, and we have now.  Just don't leave anything important in the car, and pull off only the ignition key for them.
