A Nice Afternoon

Post by clwn2 »

This post should go good with some of the recent posts; "A Good Night", "What a Night" and "Milk Money".  They all had short witty names so I thought I would go along with this theme.  I am just having a little fun of course.  If I had anything better to call it I probably would have and kept my mouth shut.

OK, my story for today.  This story is probably trivial compared to some of the fabulous stories posted here about some of our lucky forum members who have won quite a lot of money.  The jest of it is not really about the amount won but the way it came about.  In my playing career I have probably hit between 25-40 royals in various denom between 5 cent and quarters in the last 15 years.  If my memory serves me correctly, I had to earn them one way or another through some play in the machine I was at during the session when they were hit.  I have only had a very few that were hit within a few hands and or minutes of play.  Today I went to the casino on a whim.  I really should not have gone because my theoretical bank roll had been depleted.  But, one way or another, I went down anyway because I had the opportunity to so and it will be a while before I will be able to go again.   I played the usual 10 coin nickel machines that I do OK on.  Not good enough to hit the royal but I get my share of quads and such.  Today was the typical day, I was up and down and ended a session on a nickel machine down $30.  I decided to move to another machine and in my travels I noticed some new machines that I had not had a chance to play before.  They were All American Poker machines that have various triple play games on them.  I noticed that they had "Chase the Royal" on them so I gave it a try. I felt confident about it because I had done a little research on the game and knew that the best option for play was to always chase the royal.  I put a five spot in and pushed the deal button.  Out came a pair of something that prompted the chase the royal feature to kick in and it automatically held the three to the royal.  Without really looking at it I hit the draw button and casually glanced at the screen not really expecting to see anything but a a straight or a flush or something like that.  When I looked down I could not believe my eyes.  The screen was blinking the call attendant and jackpot sign. I had hit a royal on the first hand!  Just as I had noticed the jackpot I also saw that the amount was $400 for an 8000 coin jackpot!!  Not only had I hit the royal but it was for twice as much as I originally thought.  On some of these new machines it is not immediately evident how many coins it takes to play the max.  I hit max bet to start as a rule and check the credit count later.  I usually grumble when the coin max is higher than I expect, but not today!!

Like I said before, this is the first time that I have ever hit the royal in the first hand.  I am still stoked because I am not usually this lucky with the royal.  It is nice to be able to add a story that at least has some similarities to what I have read here.   I ended the day up  $300 which is a good take for nickels.   Definitely made my day!

Congratulations on the Royal, and the winning day!  Do it again next time.

Hey T, you sure it was All american and not All Star Poker?I'm not sure what All Star Poker is Ed, but I do know that All American Poker is sometimes called USA Poker and those two names are interchangeable...even on the machines.  I'm not sure if the difference is because of different brands of machines or if the same company owns the rights to the logic under both names.

Mike, I'm not sure of the manufacturer but the game is called All Star Poker. Same as the Game Kings, MG/MD except these have Spin Poker, Multi-strike, Chase the Royal and even STP mixed in with regular poker games on single/ multi line options as well. Pretty neat cuz you don't have to go around looking for several machines, just one!

IGT makes All Star Poker. It is another multi-game platform as Ed mentioned. These also include some multi-play options in addition to what Ed mentioned. It can take quite awhile to check all the paytables as each variation (STP, MS, CTR, etc)  listed on the side (around 10 of them) can each have several different games (at least 12 per variation, maybe more).

Since my last post, I've played at the same "Store" a few times and have had my, "You-Know-What" totally "Kicked".  Now there's one other place I like to play, (not one of the "Big Casino's") this is more like a small little "Cheer's" (if-you-will).  Well, the same thing there.  Nothing but losing my "behind".  But, 5 years ago, after coming back from Calif. I stopped in to get a bite to eat & play a little.  On the 6th hand I was delt 3 to the Royal, and caught the 2 needed for a RF for 8K.  Talk about being "Wided- Eyed" from that handpay!  My sesssons are long ... Since then, I have hit (2) RF, but I have never had a RF delt to me, 'nor have I hit a RF since Dec '06.  I always play $1 DDBP.  And I play quite often.  So comes the "Question".  What the heck I am doing wrong????  I'm definitely not some great "VP" player, but I do play... (well, for the most part, "buy-the-book"). Yes, there's been those  ("silly sessions", I call it), when I've chased.  Now, I've had some really good "sessions", coming out with a win, well over what a Royal would pay, (not complaining what-so-ever) but... none-the-less, no ROYAL.  That just seems really odd.  I play on an average of 2x's  a week.  Is it just bad timimg...or what?   Maybe so...  since there's been a few occasions when,  right when I've walked threw the door  (atten./or bartender) has said:  Hi Tara, someone just hit a ROYAL on your machine.
Well...I know it's just a figure of speech, it's not my machine...I guess they're giving me a "heads-up"?.  Who knows.  Doesn't mean it can't/won't hit again.  I mean anyone who's played long enough knows that.  In the past... I've hit (2) RF's, (same machine) within about 20 min. of each other, when everyone sitting next to me said: "Your not going to hit anything again on that machine now... you should move".  First of all, there was no moving to another machine, (my preference)... since the little strip of machines I was playing on were all occupied.  Any advice from you would be very much appreciated.   I've read alot of your posts, and I would just like to say: "CONGRATULATIONS" on your most resent ROYAL FLUSH WIN !!!            Thank-you.      Sincerely,  Tara

Sounds to me like you understand the game very well. Each hand is independent and your odds don't change whether you stay or move. Personally, I'd rather play a machine that has been hit but that's just me. It really makes no difference. As for royals ... Recently I went 36 days without any royals, then 7 royals in 38 days and now, another 38 days without royal. I play around 120K hands every month so I should see around 3 each month. You play much less but you can see the same kind of streaks just expanded out in time.

Since you are playing DDB your streaks are also amplified by the high variance. That can work for you or against you. Hopefully you're earning lots of CB or free play as you go to smooth out the streaks.

Thank you for your response, "Shadowman" ...  And yes,  I have played many times on a machine that had just had a big payout & hit very nicely myself.  So I will just continue as I have been playing (minus... the "silly sessions"). Hopefully sometime soon I shall too hit a nice RF. Thank-you again.  Take care, and Good Luck!!!      Sincerely,    Tara

I can't wait for my firs royal flush. I hope it's in a casino and not a convenience store though, because my screaming would make me look funny there.
