That quarter progressive carousel was packed on Saturday. Meter rarely reaches $1,200, so no staff. Can denominations on existing machines be switched to quarter? Probably. But high rollers would complain.
A compulsive quarter JOB progressive regular arrived at the carousel on Saturday. I was playing and machines were regularly turning over. Yet he stood behind me for 5-10 minutes and was apparently completely entertained watching my play. After my irrelevant Aces/kicker quad, I spun and called him a $&@<>*#% idiot! Just the most uncomfortable feeling. What a creep. I actually stayed at the carousel longer than I should have just to beat him to a potential RF.

Yes, but the regulars here will tell you that's a bad thing because they don't WANT to be able to gamble online.

According to the numbers, the industry has been revolutionized.

Look at New Jersey. This is from a UNLV Gaming Research compilation. Statewide casino (slot & table) win topped out at 5.2b in 2006. Ten years later, it had crashed in half to 2.6b.

Today, slot & table win is still down in the dumps, but total gaming win is into record territory thanks to online and sports.

As a purely recreational VP player, I go to the casino for a variety of reasons that would not be satisfied online. The casino I go to is brand new having opened in June of this year. There are numerous multi-game IGT machines that have VP. They are all new. I play quarter 9-5 DDB with a progressive royal. Yes, the pay table is not what was before the pandemic. Given my relatively small play and reason for being there, it is not the worst I have encounter over the years. For the example, when I played VP at Harrah's Ak Chin beginning in 2006-7, their progressive DDB bank was 8-5 To paraphrase Mark Twain's famous quote, the report of the death of VP are greatly exaggerated.

Count me in the crowd that has ZERO interest in playing video poker online for real money. Maybe sports betting at some point because I don't do that in casinos any way.

If you gamble at home, I don't know how you would ever decide to stop. Bored? How bout you just put another $500 on the card. NO THANK YOU.

Playing at home would be stale, and when I lose it would feel dirty like my bank account had just been raided. I could see this getting very depressing very quickly.

At least in a casino I bring my money with me and if I lose, I know I'm paying a small part of the electric bill.

It's a visit that starts and ends, and video poker is largely about the experience (for me). I can't think of anything that would convince me gambling online would be a worthwhile experience, even with positive pay tables.

As for the future of VP, I don't know what to expect. I see brand new casinos like Resorts World opening in Vegas and putting in a ton of VP. So I haven't been expecting things to go anywhere. Good pay tables? That's another story. Things may be different in other places, but since I only play in Vegas, that's my experience.

I'm in this camp too. I can't think of anything more depressing than gambling in your living room. I'll abuse offers online, don't get me wrong, but I will never choose it over a land based casino. Playing at home is just too degenerate, even for me lol. I think if you use those websites you should go sit at starbucks or somewhere while gambling to at least make it time away from home.
