G2E 2024 - Wheel of Fortune Video Poker

Post by alpax »

G2E 2024 is happening two weeks from now on October 7

IGT is expected to showcase with multiple Wheel of Fortune themed slots, but they have something for video poker. I have interest in checking it out if it requires more skill to figure out the phrase on top of knowing the best hold on a 5 card deal.

I am not sure if Pat Sajak (recently retired) or Vanna White will appear on it.

The game combines IGT's video poker content with the award-winning Wheel of Fortune theme. Available on the CrystalCurve and PeakSlant49 cabinets, Wheel of Fortune Video Poker incorporates the franchise's puzzle-solving features and the "Wheel Bonus". The multi-hand poker game is available in triple-play, five-play, and ten-play configurations and can award players 30,000, 50,000, or 100,000 credits, respectively, for a dealt royal flush.

IGT had at least one previous slot with a puzzle solve. This was maybe 20 to 25 years ago:

There was no skill in solving. To "solve" the puzzle, you had to reveal all the letters -- accomplished by catching symbols on the reels.

As I recall, there were three aspects to game selection. You wanted: (1) a lengthy puzzle, (2) nearly completed, with (3) a large accumulation of bonus points (indicated to the lower right of the puzzle). Bonus points were proportional to bet amount, so the best setups occurred when the departed players who contributed to the puzzle were betting max.

If a new game were to allow for a skill solve of the puzzle, it would be an easy lookup on a phone. In the pic above, I stared at the puzzle for a bit with no inkling, but a quick input to an online puzzle solver gave me the solution imo.

It turns out you are right about how the Wheel of Fortune Video Poker will turn out.

I was able to find footage on YouTube of someone playing Wheel of Fortune Video Poker at G2E 2024

Starts at the 7:27 mark

https://youtu.be/O_wjw8l7Ci4?si=L5VZP4gyqJ2ltf_a&t=449

A few things to note:

1. A dealt winning hand will reveal a letter on the board
2. Player cannot solve the puzzle even if they know the phrase
3. Perhaps if all the letters in the puzzle gets filled out, the player gets to spin a virtual wheel for a credit prize?
4. Wagering: 10 Hands played at 5 credits per hand, but an extra 5 credit wager to enable the Wheel of Fortune feature for a total of 55 credits per round
5. Dealt Royal Flush Bonus: On a 10 Play 25 cent denomination, if a player is dealt a RF, a bonus win of $25,000 is awarded. I am not sure if it is on top of the 40,000 credits ($10,000 in quarters) for getting 10 royal flush payouts.

Interesting game that would need sizable bankroll for a play session to fill out the puzzle, otherwise a vulture can look for a partially completed puzzle and play out the rest.

"PLAY YOUR CARDS RIGHT" -- how ironic 8-).

It looks simple. Every dealt winner awards a letter, and a completed puzzle awards a spin which should on average return the accumulated 5-coin bonus bets. I'm ignoring the dealt royal jackpot because it's only minimally additive to the payback.

The video showed a 120-deal pace to solve. (He played 40 deals and filled 1/3rd of the puzzle.)

There must be a complication. I suspect the game can randomly skip to a full solve (on any dealt winner). The on-screen language says: "A dealt winning hand MAY solve the puzzle."

This would cut into the buzzard potential by reducing both the nearly-completed-puzzle opportunities, and average spin value.

The reality here is that we no longer no the RTP. It could easily be as bad as a slot machine. I won't play.

Another video content featuring Wheel of Fortune Video Poker.

Solving the puzzle does enable a wheel spin for a credit win.

The animation can be seen at 1:41 mark of the video

Brad talked a lot about the wheel spin realism. (Doubtful but) in theory, the spin swipe could be skill/dexterity-dependent. I seem to recall Rolf aiming for the $1250 wedge on the final spin.
