Deuces Wild basic strategy

Post by OKKOPoker »

I have been playing the Wizard's basic strategy on the videopoker website and in most cases I am doing quite well but the stop light goes to red when I play rule # 7 with 1 deuce - 3 to a royal flush - Q+ 2 A+ and rule #8 with 0 deuces - 3 to a straight flush - A+ 3+ 4+. In both instances the stop light does not seem to like the Ace.

You gotta post the actual dealt hands.

Q clubs - deuce - A clubs - 3 diamonds - 6 diamonds
The Wizard's basic strategy says to hold the three to a royal. Here on this website I get a red traffic light for holding those cards.
Next hand:
A clubs - 3 clubs - 4 clubs - 8 diamonds - 9 diamonds
No deuce in this hand. According to the Wizard's strategy I am supposed to hold the three cards to a straight flush. Again a red light.
Everything else seems to be 100% ok.

Are you playing full-pay Deuces, NSU Deuces, Ugly Ducks, or another variant? The strategies differ significantly when the pay schedule changes.

Q clubs - deuce - A clubs - 3 diamonds - 6 diamonds
Full pay deuces: hold 2 only
NSU: hold suited Q2A

A clubs - 3 clubs - 4 clubs - 8 diamonds - 9 diamonds
Full pay deuces: hold nothing
NSU: hold suited A34

In full-pay Deuces, since a flush only pays 2-for-1, pursuing a three-card straight flush with gaps is generally not preferred. Additionally, because a full house pays 3-for-1, you should hold a single pair when dealt two pairs.

In NSU Deuces, the payout structure differs—straight flushes pay 10-for-1, and flushes pay 3-for-1—making it more advantageous to go for three-card wild royals and three-card straight flushes, though exceptions apply. Since full house pays 4 for 1, you hold 2 pairs a lot, except when there is a 3 card royal.

The strategies differ significantly, so it's crucial to know which game you're playing and apply the correct strategy based on its pay schedule.
