I used to drink a lot of Diet Pepsi. I have cut back recently (advice of dentist) and avoid all sodas most of the time. Mostly, I drink black coffee or water. Of course, a good beer on a hot day can't be beat.

Curious, what was the Dentists reason?

Just a touch of cream...preferably the cheapest off brand powdered creamer on the shelf...not Coffeemate. And as for coffee...I'm tickled plum pink with Taster's Choice Instant and a good microwave! Not very elitist, but I drink probably more of it on any given day than just about anyone! However, I do admit that I broke all my rules this past week in Vegas. At Four-Queens, even playing at that low-ball $5 table, I asked and received Johnny Walker Black! One is all I dared drink with all the Hydrocodone in my system! God did it ever taste good!

Curious, what was the Dentists reason?[/QUOTE]Yeah, I thought one of the reasons for drinking that nasty stuff was to keep the dentist happy. For me, regular Coke of Pepsi, no diet drinks. If it tastes funny, its gotta be funny and even a really good string cheese won't fix it. Is there a really good string cheese?

Most soft drinks are acidic in nature. This eats away at the teeth. This link provides some additional info:

"Fact #3 - 90% or more of damage to teeth is ultimately caused by one four letter word - acid. Teeth are crystals in structure and are able to be dissolved by acid. Bacteria live on teeth, digesting sugar to produce acid as their by-product. This acid then dissolves tooth structure and makes weak spots and holes that we call cavities or tooth decay. Soft drinks and sports drinks are acidic. (They contain phosphoric acid and citric acid among others.) If a person drinks 2 carbonated or sports drinks in a day (this includes diet soda), we see a 300% increase in dental disease regardless of whether we brush. This includes more decay and also direct acidic erosion of teeth."

Ick! () Up until a few years ago I'd go through 2 pots a day. Finally decided that it was better for me to toss my coffeepot and limit myself to a morning and evening trip to da Cat's fave place - the one with the green-and-beige pattern.
I may have posted this before, but here's a tip to fellow Starbuck's regulars - bring your own travel cup or thermos and save 10-cents each time. Saves a tree or two over the course of a year as well.

Hey CD,. Unfortunately, I have to drink only diet because of being pre-diabetic. Watching things like sugars and glutens that I NEVER did in my youth. I, like CD enjoy the Seattle monopoly drink but won't complain about the comp java at the casino either. Just wish it were served in a mug and not a double sized shot glass! I did enjoy having a mountain dew and a dill pickle, or an RC and some peanuts to shove inside it!

I have one of those 30 cup coffee pots. I usually finish it off in around 3 days when I'm around the house. When I'm in a casino I may go through 5-6 big cups (10 oz) in a morning. I never drink coffee in the evening.
Ed, I am also pre-diabetic but have been able to keep it in check with more exercise. I started drinking diet drinks when I was in my 20s and decided I didn't need all that sugar. Besides then I could eat more donuts ().

True story. Checked into a Motel one night while traveling on my job. Went to a restuarant, food terrible, paid and left it sitting there.( I was non-confrontatioal at that time). Stopped at a Dunkin Donuts on the way back to the room, got a Dozen assorted, got a DP and ate 11 of them. (left one didn't want to over do it) Best meal I ever had.

I started drinking coffee when in college back in the mid-60's to stay awake after playing poker to study....it didn't work! Once I started working, I reached the point that I had a relatively hot cup of coffee on my desk from the time I got to the office until I left and had more at home. Hopelessly addicted to caffeine. If I DON'T drink it, I get horrible headaches!
