Re: Anything and everything
I can automate the blocking of this particular site's links. And I just
have. Usually people only hit once, but this one is a pest so I took
the time to do so.We can also set accounts to require approval
for their first X number of posts before they show up automatically,
but that seems a less friendly approach.Actually, I've found that "approval" or better that graphic text trick (can't remember what it's called) that is required for the first couple of posts will block most of the automated "spam bots" and also discourage the manual offenders since they do not know how many posts they are going to have to make manually before turning it over to their Bots.I have this enabled on the first few posts anyone makes on my little Forum. If I recognize the one who has registered, I'll go ahead and bump up the number of posts they've made to defeat the check.Another method is to set up simple questions and answers and have an option as to how many they have to answer correctly. Questions like "Is a Dog An Animal", "Can Most Birds Fly"...simple questions but strong enough to defeat most Spam Bots.As a moderator, I never liked having to approve someone's posts...time consuming for me and as you said, "unfriendly" to the visitor. The graphic entry option is irritating but if limited to a low number of posts, quite effective. But then, I'm sure you guys have considered all of those options. And, quite frankly, this site has a lot more traffic than mine and must have different criteria for combating SPAM.

Three interesting questions asked of Mark Pilarski - www.freep.com/pilarski 7-24-30-2008, PLAY (weekly section), Detroit Free Press (freep). Q:1.Is there minimum payout percentage on slot machines that must be paid out? 2.On recent trip to LV, I had trouble finding quarter video poker machine. Can't they put them all in one area and mark them appropriately? 3.I believed I found a sleeper full pay (9/6) bonus machine where I play. Friend doubts our local Indian casino would allow it on the casino floor. Could this machine have slipped through a crack without management knowing it? Log on his site for A. to these and previous columns. Marie really enjoys his weekly Q & A because it's interesting, informative and brief!

See if my answers match Mark's-
1) Long term min/max payouts for slot play vary by state. NV minimum is 75%. There are no regulations that cover min/max payouts for short term play (individual sessions)
2) Casinos are free to locate their machines where they want. I think they like having denominations mixed throughout the casino hoping that a nickel player might try some quarter play while walking from one bank of nickel machines to another, a quarters player might try some $1 play, etc.
3) Yes, though the casinos are good at catching "oopsies" that work out in a player's favor.

You can do anything and everything which you want to do because we are living in a free nation.

3) This may be a variation of the psuedo Bonus Poker game that only pays 1-1 for two pair. They call it BP but it's not. However, if it does pay 2-1 for two pair and follows the BP paybacks for quads this would be a great find. The payback is over 101.4%

Whats the payback percentage on an 8/5 BP as opposed to a 9/6 which I don't believe I've seen in a number of years. I run into several 10/8 BP but only pays 1-1 on two pairs thus lowering ER.

Let`s blame it on the smoking ban. Maybe they will come back since it was lifted.
