WinPoker
Hi all! I'm new to VP. I've only recently turned 21 and I plan on going to Tunica with some friends within a week. I've read some posts on here and Tunica sounds like an alright spot. Anyways, I found a WinPoker disk about 3 months, I guess it was my pops.
So i've been playing WinPoker nonstop for the past 3 months, mainly just playing Jacks or Better, as someone told me that it's an easier game to learn. I've basically become pretty good at holding the right cards. I think this WinPoker edition that I have is around 2 to 4 years old, I doubt that it's the current edition out on the market. My question is, are the games on WinPoker and other VP software simulated like the machines in real life? I guess i'm just wanting to find out how realistic WinPoker is so I know what i'm getting myself in for when I finally sit down at a machine.
I've got a lot to learn with VP and everything, but i'm trying to take it one step at a time. I know one thing though, i've sure had a blast playing the WinPoker these past few months when there has been nothing else to do.

I'm not all that familiar with WinPoker but other than the graphics not being the same as the machines in the casino, the way it plays should be very close as long as you are not in a "training mode" or something like that.

WinPoker is very accurate depiction of what will likely happen in a casino. There are of course all the ifs, ands, and buts, that go along with the Random selection of the cards.

WinPoker is accurate and I don't think there have been any changes made to it in the last 2-4 years. But you may have trouble finding games that have the exact pay schedules that are WinPoker's default values for many of the games at the coin denominations that you wish to start at.
If the pay schedules are different (usually lower on one or more lines), you will have to change some of your holds (and you can generally expect bigger losses). Finding the pay schedules that match what you have practiced is a big challenge the first time that you walk into a casino.
That being said, you can modify the pay schedules in WinPoker to match many games that you will find in a casino. Then you can "Run Analysis" to find the game's Expected Value to see if you still want to play and/or practice the correct holds. So, it will take you a couple trips to the casino unless you can find the casino's pay schedules online somewhere or talk with someone knowledgeable about that casino's pay schedules beforehand.
This forum is a good way to find people with that casino experience.

This link will give you some information about the tunica area.

From all reports the Sheriton has the best VP. As you can see they have plenty of 9/6 JOB. Make sure you get a player's card and get all the comps you can. No sense in paying for stuff you can get free.
Winpoker is still a great tool even though it hasn't been updated in many years. There are also other software products that may interest you if you decide to keep playing. Several have been discussed here.
Good luck on your trip.

Hi tate, Welcome to VP.com and forum main. I suppose it is way too late to warn you that VP is very addicting. You could really use your time to better advantage and more profitably elsewhere. That said, log in, click on "search" upper right, click on "search by key word", enter "tunica" and click "start search" at the base. You will see your post and that of SM and many other comments by members regarding their experiences at Tunica. Have fun and good luck!

Tate, welcome to the wonderful world of VP.
One thing I have found while using WinPoker is a reliance on the program to immediately show you the error of your ways. As you take your practice game to the Casino, one is often confronted with a hand they are not sure of. I learned to practice in what is called the "none" mode. After a given number of hands you can than check your results and view any errors that you might have made. This , in a way, forces you to make the choices based on your knowledge of the game just as you have to in the Casino.

Welcome Tate! Winpoker is the only VP tutorial I own but it has become an invaluable tool to me as is the help of many here on the forum. To all, I owe a debt of gratitude.

The WinPoker has been a HUGE learning tool for me. I've pretty much got JoB down. I also went to Tunica the other day for the first time. I went with some friends and they were basically showing me slots and just about everything a casino has to offer, so my VP time was minimal. I really loved it though. I'm going back again this weekend for some more fun.
