You'll find many casinos dropping their room rates to entice visitors so shop around unless you're pre-booked. You'll also find most casino cages will gladly accept your money in whatever form. A great majority will exchange it for free since it is insured but I wouldn't put it past a few places to charge for changing trav cheques. Small but neat place to poke your head into, Slots-a-fun.Looks like older LV strip casinos and still has that monster hot dog deal. Don't be afraid to sightsee and do enjoy yourselves!
                            Happy Anniversary y'all!

Congrats on your 25th anniversary! I'm sure you'll have a ball in LV(no pun intended). The Mirage is a very nice property,I'm sure you will like it,it is our hotel of choice for our annual pilgrimage. The VP is no worse (or no better) than any of the Strip paytables available. While I myself have never done all that well there, the Mrs. has quite good luck. On one of our more recent visits to the Mirage, she hit a $4K progressive on a .25 machine while playing at the bar ( adjacent to the sports book, a cool place to play & people watch) & later the same evening hit a $3K slot jackpot!!Sheesh! I consider it a minor victory to leave town even or down only a couple of C's! Anyway, good luck & enjoy!

12 DAY'S...........
Mirage rates keep dropping..Any feeling's on Casino Royale, O'sheas, Harrahs, Palace Station. They seem to be across the street from The Mirage. We would like to check them out on our 1st dayYeah, those are on the opposite side of  the street.  You might have a ways to walk to get to a crosswalk though...maybe all the way up to Flamingo (Caesars Palace).  Not sure though.  The Strip is not my domain <smile>

One can cross Las Vegas Blvd. (the strip) at the S Mirage (white tigers) exit over to Harrah's with the signal light. Hustle to make it across with one light. FAIR WARNING: WATCH OUT for those very young, old, tired, intoxicated, on meds, homeless and from every country in the world who do not speak English or know OR care anything about our traffic system and regulations. Also, some might be elated with wins or depressed with the opposite and be thinking a tad less clearly than desirable. ABOVE all watch out for those who are in Vegas for the very first time! They are easy to spot, as well as easy targets from undesirables. They wear expensive bling, tote designer luggage and study maps. There will be a Vegas magazine in your room with great ideas of what to see and do. Scan it when you first arrive instead of after you return home! Perhaps HOOTERS still has that $100 free play offer when you first sign up for a players card? Beware time share super sales people! Free monorail in front of Mirage goes to Treasure Island next door. Another great free monorail connects Excaliber, Luxor and Mandalay Bay. HAVE FUN, WIN BIG!

MFP; Hooters and Arizona Charlies both had $100 free play promotions for new player card sign-ups. Tuscany did for awhile also. Best to do some web footwork and see if they are still valid. I don't know anyone who wouldn't take a free benjamin for signing up.

Marie,
By the way did you save any money for us on our next trip trip to Northern Michigan casinos?
Mike  Mike, Check out all NINE pages of posts re bigSteve's VEGAS IN SEPT trip under forum topic Viva Las Vegas. Among the funny/fluff is a lot of useful info, much probably repeated here for you. I left half a bankroll at three Native American casinos for you. I was nicely recouping losses at Soaring Eagle when we had to leave to keep reservations at the next reservation. The old Turtle (symbol of fertility) Creek casino is now a parking lot and the NEW, huge Turtle Creek opened this summer as world class, modern casino w 50s theme. Definitely a departure from the typical, rustic, pine, green and large stone of other Indian casinos in Northern MI. Modern decor includes furnishings reminscent of Russell Wright, Japanese designer Noguchi (open slat bench/coffee table) and C. Eames (large contrasting horizontal wood rectangular wall back drop) Square drinking glasses and square, linen-like parchment-looking lamp shades are cool in the rooms. The bed is on a wood platform. Watch out for the shins at the ungiving corners! Red, black and white themed 50s deli features repo Coke signs and one Elvis on a wall, with pedestal tables. Noticed a 6/5 pay table at Little River but hey, the pop corn is free! Their new, HUGE winter garden with cave effect and waterfalls all over the place is amazing! Looking forward to your Vegas report!

Mike, Log on "slot club sign up bonuses" updated 10-8-2008, for good info and make a note of the best offers. You can only eat at so many free buffets on one trip and might wish to sign up at other casinos that offer buffets on another trip. Apparently, there are strings attached at Hooters and that $100 sign up bonus is for machines of their choice. log on "Hooters $100 free slot play" for comments.  Las Vegas Review/Journal daily newspaper should give casinos that offer multiple slot play points.  "What's On" is one of the Vegas magazines that offer good ideas.  In the past, we have found useful info in coupons and/or magazines at the entrance of Casino Royale. Also, there's a magazine rack at the back door of Harrah's, where one catches the free shuttle to RIO. ATMs are at every casino. I understand some places are not taking travelers checks any more.

Marie,
Where can I find "slot club sign up bonuses" that you referred to? Should I sign-up for various slot clubs to the Casinos we plan on visiting online & just go & pick up cards when we are there? Since we are staying @ The Mirage my wife & I are going to link card's. I know this is not available @ MGM Detroit. Everyone has been very helpfull & I appreciate everyone's input.
Thanks,
Mike
