Keno vs VP
Our favorite casino in Lake Charles is reducing VP for Keno. They recently moved two high pay 100 play machines out and replaced them with Keno. The loss of two of our machines was a killer but the noise from Keno next to you is worse. So a guy I met earlier in the elevator talking to his wife about his Keno hits before breakfast sits next to we while I play 50 play after lunch. I am excited to be up several hundred when he hits for $3,700 while playing off a hundred dollars. While waiting for his final payoff he moves to the next Keno and puts a hundred in and continues to play 24 hands @ 25¢/hand. Before he gets his first payoff he hits for $17,955. By now I am dying. Maybe, I should learn Keno (I know it has lousy return % but....)
Later he tells me loves the big bucks but not to get hooked on Keno. The night before he stated he lost $5K playing another Keno machine.
Of well, I guess I will stick to VP.

Over 21k playing quarter keno? Even with progressives attached, doubtful you'll ever hit 21k playing quarter VP unless its 10-play or 5-play with a big multiplier or something of that ilk.

Keno seems like a pretty straight-forward lottery game to calculate. Anyone know what these games generally return?

I think I have seen in the 75% range.

I know the house edge is higher than that of roulette or big six wheel. It's saving grace(except the video version)is that it's a slow game. Don't ask Ron Harris for advice. He was in there with OEJ for awhile. He did figure a way to beat some of the video keno games however.

Keno parlors typically return 70-75%. Keno machines return between 90-95% most of the time. You can determine returns yourself:

When asked once, both Mike Shackelford and Anthony Curtis said keno returns were worse than roulette. They didn't comment on video keno however but said the parlor game took so long between rounds that it didn't matter that the return percentage was so low because you didn't lose money as fast as a table or machine. Sounded logical to me despite percentages saying otherwise.
