Cruise Casino

Post by ljtopfer »

Wife and I just got back from week cruise on Princess to celebrate daughter's/son-in-laws 25th anniversary. Cruise casinos are known for poor returns. We played a little several nights just for fun usually a little VP and then pennies or nickels to hold onto our money till we got back to the states.

The third day we stopped at Antigua with lots of rain. Wife and I decided to check out a new casino next to Sandals resort. Took a taxi and arrived at the casino to find it dark except one car parked outside. It looked like it was still under construction. Checked and found a back door open. We went in to get out of the rain and were met by a young woman in plain clothes. When we inquired about the casino she responded by calling to a tech who literally went into the office and turned on the lights and machines. For the next two and half hours my wife and I had the casino to ourselves as we waited out the rain. Even though the odds were low-average for VP, we had a great time having our own "private" casino. One waitress and two customers. If you go to Antigua, check out the Bay Colony casino next to Sandals.

Finally, on the last night of the cruise we committed to trying to play a few dollars on VP. We had lost every night and only played $60-80/night each to save our money. We both chose one of the 6 VP quarter machines. My wife went down $40 quickly and left to play nickels. I lost $40 and moved to the next machine. Talked to player next to me who said she had hit a RF and 4 deuces two nights before. Maybe there was a chance!

Put $40 in and played JOB (the best return 6-5) on the machines-nothing. Tried DW-nothing and then Double Bonus which I usually don't play. As soon as I went Double Bonus it was hot. Fifteen minutes into it it dealt me 4 Aces (800). Went to 10 coin and two dozen hands later, it dealt me 4 -2's (800). About twenty minutes later, held two Aces and drew the other two for (1600) and cashed out $1,000. Put $100 back in the machine and continued to play hot and cold. Drew another quad and went down. Began playing 5 coin and then I held three to RF and hit the RF. Cashed out the $1,000. In less than 45 minutes the low pay cruise VP machine had paid for my cruise.

I knew it was possible but very improbable that such a low pay machine cruise machine would every hit for me like it did, but I appreciate the luck that I had.

WTG Larry. I guess LUCK still is the great equalizer.

I always find that the machines are better paying on the first day and last day of a cruise. I have been on about 13 cruises, and that has been my experience.
