Re: Holding 4 to the Royal
Diceman, Marie, Vidopoker,
Just got back for LV this afternoon. Arrived Sunday with wife, daughter, new son-in-law (LV Virgin). Stayed at one of Harrah’s properties on the Strip. We were supposed to fly out Wednesday my birthday but flights cancelled. If you have to get stranded in a blizzard …Vegas as long as an ATM is handy and money is in the bank ain’t bad. Was awesome watching the snow come across the valley and down the Strip from our rooms on my birthday. Daughter says she planned it all along.
The pay tables at Harrah’s properties are lousy and the only good run of luck was when my daughter was playing the first night. She has limited funds and even more limited experience playing VP. She came to me and told me she had worked her last $5 up to 22.50. Curious I went to check on her and found her playing DDB one credit at a time. When I inquired how her money had gone up she said it had given her 4/kind several times and was giving her 5 cards in sequences and lots of one pair + three kinds. Needless, to say I gave her another $40 and told her she needed to play 5 credits and sat down beside her. I watched her play and began giving advice. She shouldn’t hold all the face cards – just suited ones, no she should keep a card just to keep a card in a throw away hand, etc. I couldn’t argue much with her success as she pointed out several times when my advice led to a loss versus a gain/even. Finally, she began to play and understand how to play VP. Over the next hour we had a wonder father/daughter time as she continued to hit several more quads including two with kickers and cashed out $400 dollars.
My wife and I played at Red Rock-our favorite casino. We both hit deuces but didn’t do much else. The guy sitting between us, before supper, was playing $DB and quickly losing. His wife called and he stated he wasn’t supposed to be at the casino playing. Shortly after my wife hit her 4 deuces on DWB he decide to switch. He told me he didn’t like to play DW and rarely hit anything. First hand he draws 2 deuces and possible straight. He turns to me and asked what he should keep. We both tell him only the two deuces. Sure enough he draws the four deuces on DWB - $2,500. He calls his wife and tells her we will be taking her out to dinner to make up for playing. He forgets to tell her he has just hit and is awaiting payoff. What a moment of mixed emotions – commit homicide in jealous rage or congratulate the son/gun.
Played at Palms two days. First day we played a lot of Joker. I had a hot but streaky machine. Was dealt 4 /RF twice but no luck. Left and came back to the same machine about an hour later. Held three/RF and hit the Royal. Thursday after being snowed in and flights cancelled we returned to the Palms. Lousy first two hours. Down to last $100 in frustration decided to play a new Bonus Wheel triple play game with Bonus Wheels for quads. Third hand held 3 Aces and drew quad and 500 coins bonus wheel draw. Cashed out almost 400 and headed to HL area. Played DW and finally conservative Bonus and worked it up to over 800. Played down and split the money before dinner. After dinner play was lousy again and we agreed to leave at 9:30 for early flight. Around 9:15 down to last few dollars went to DB machines at the entrance. Nothing on first three machines. Fourth machine is hot. Wife joins me at 9:45 ready to go. We know not to leave hot machine and she joins me using her last money. Over the next 45 minutes we both hit several quads including two with kickers and cash out up for the evening.
At the airport early this morning I decided to play $20 in DW then DWB. Playing one credit to kill half hour. DWB is hot and I switch to 5 credits and call wife over. Cash out 70 and split it. She begins playing DDB and is dealt quad with kicker. We cash out $200 and head home.
Vegas what a city! Casinos…Blizzard….RF….great memories.
Merry Christmas to all VP players!

Lucky Larry...
Sounds like you had a great time. I'm glad to hear it. I hope I have half the fun you did.
I must say though, that my favorite part of your story was the guy whose wife called and told him he was not supposed to be at the casino gambling!!

Lucky Larry, Thanks for sharing your fun and profitable Vegas story! No mention of how your new S in L fared gambling or his impressions of sin city. I agree Palms is a good place to play. First time I heard of anyone winning anything at the airport, however. I equated those machines to the usually losers on cruise ships. Although, on a brief layover at Amsterdam en route to Paris, I won enough to pay for the plane fare in a slot machine. And I don't even know how to play slots! Next trip to Vegas we plan to call the airport to learn if our flight is on time. Several times our flights were running late and we could have been winning more in a casino for a few extra hours or NOT.Tomorrow, four of us and one good dog drive nine plus hours through snow belts of OH and PA. We'll visit our son's family in VA for a week. NO casinos, so withdrawal is inevitable. Further, I will cave under the sarcasm of nine who will call me names like "addict" and worse, if I even think of trying that contest! I'll try really hard not to say "Where do your think your gifts and checks came from if I did not win at casinos?" So much for Christmas spirit!Best for the holidays, everyone!

Marie,
We both know the feeling! Addicted! Our kids/families often call and the first thing they say is, " Are you on the way home or still at the casino?" or "Well if its Tuesday/Wednesday (Thursday/Friday) (Sunday/Monday) we just figured you were at the casino." - even though it is two hours away in La. We keep reminding them that we are winning more than we are making on the stock market (especially this year) and its only their small inheritance we are playing with...LOL. We also notice a "envious" tone in their voices-maybe because we are retired or because we go so often or maybe both. We have also noticed that when they want to go they don't hesitate to ask our assistance for rooms if they plan on staying overnight! And the kids now comment about how they have set up a "401-G account" or a "G" account like we have at the credit union to provide for their trips.
They will be surprised with their stockings this year.. small gifts and as per family tradition everyone brings and places scratch-offs in each others stockings. Great time seeing who won what! This year we are giving each one a hand-held VP game as a special present from us so they can practice. That should bring a few laughs and comments.
The new S in L played a little VP (limited resources and college loans). He was in awe of the LV experience. Sights, sounds, people, and the snow!
Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe holidays.

Lucky Larry, Your forum post is too funny, especially the scratch off gift exchange! It seems no one is neutral about gambling. They either approve or they don't! I am convinced I am having much more fun than non gamblers.
We had never experienced cold until we hit a wind chill of 17 degrees below, near Toledo, yesterday. It was ten degrees and we wasted no time hustling into a MEIJERS store when we stopped to refuel! Three earlier X way stops produced closed gas stations due to power outages! An ice storm had passed through leaving trees sparkling sensationally in the sun. Our son's van was experiencing three problems and three of us were in favor of returning home. Husband was convinced if we slid off the road or van problems escalated we would freeze to death before help could arrive. Van problems seemed resolved and we continued through snowless PA and dry pavements arriving in VA twelve hours after leaving home.
There is almost peaceful co existence between Maxie, shelties Freddie and Ginger and black lab, Lucy. Daisy, min doberman, will arrive from FL, soon. We know some people will be unhappy if Maxie eats Daisy.
