I WILL BE PLAYING IN A VP TOURNAMNET AT THE FLAMINGP IN MARCH. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE FORMAT IS? IE TIMED OR # OF HANDS?
ALSO, ANY ADVICE FROM THOSE WHO HAVE PLAYED IN ANY WOULD BE HELPFULL.
THANKS

I played in one at the Hilton. The number of hands/time etc wasn't available until check-in for that one. But I would call the slot host and see if you can find out.

How many prizes are there, and what amounts?

I would have been happy for a middle-level prize in ours, but if you want to win, I would say hold for royal flushes and nothing else. You will need one to win.

farmer, I played in one held at Rio a couple years ago and I imagine it's set up on the same format because they are both Harrahs properties. You draw for a machine and then you get a 10 minute time limit or 200 hands, whichever comes first. There is a play session on each of the two days the tourney ie held. My advice would be to watch the clock and don't race through the hands because if you finish with 2 minutes to go then you are just sitting there and when you play a bit slower you are more able to think about the hand a bit before making you decision. Also if you do not finish the 200 hands in the allotted 100 minutes then thats your tough luck.  As Eduardo said go for the big hands but don't overlook pat hands such as full houses and such because they add up in points too. The one I played in I finished in 47th place and got $100.00. At the end of the first day my point total was so low I wasn't even going to bother to come back the second day but I'm glad I did. Good luck, Ted.

200 hands in 8 minutes? That's 1500/hr so I don't think too many entrantsare going to be sitting idle, having exhausted the allotted hands too quickly!

jm - I said it was 200 hands in 10 minutes, not 8. It could very well have been a 15 minute time period but my memory is not what it used to be. In my first round I did finish WAY early and sat there twiddling my thumbs and in my second round I did a better job of watching the clock and I was able to time it better which may helped my overall score. I personally am a fast player but people are different and that is what makes the world such a wonderful place.

At the hilton I think we had about 200 hands, and it was 20 minutes. Finishing on time was very easy. I played much slower than usual, very relaxed pace,  and still finished with several minutes left (and before a lot of the crowd).

farmer,

someone on this site (can't remember the name) played in the winter vp slot tourney at the Orleans which I believe took place just last week.

Although it's a different property and owner, it's still a VP tourney. I know the 3 rounds are 15 minutes each.

If you do some research and find out who it is or they are reading this post, maybe they can fill you on the details of their tourney and some strategies they learned.

hey farmer...
i did some research using the search feature above (after being on this site all the time, I just discovered it last week!) and here is the user's name: theflop

maybe you could send them a private message to get more information?  I don't recall seeing that person as a regular on the forum.
