Pay tables
First off I would like to think all of you on this forum who have made me a better player. I am enjoying VP more and more each day and find it to be challenging. I was at my local casino last weekend and which has a pretty good selection of VP "for and indian casino" 9/6 Job 9/7 DDB and NSUD at the .25 & .50 level. However like all casinos you have to look to find good pay tables. What amazes me is how people were sitting at 7/5 and 6/5 JOB games and not a single person at the 9/6 Job macines. We talk about these tough times in the economey and I like to stretch my dollar as far as a can. Why do people not try to maxamize the chance of return? Am I just different or do I just care too much? I just don't get it I enjoy VP and will not even touch slots "I have not mastered BS on them" "I play BJ but not at this casino there is an ante" I am sorry I just cant pay .50 to place a 5 dollar bet. I just don't get it as to why a person would play a game that is not favorible to them.Stephen

The vast majority of people gamble for "entertainment" and have never read anything about VP. Many of them consider it just another type of slot machine where the paytable has no real meaning.
BTW, if everyone understood what you know, you would never be able to get on one of those good machines. Or, the machines would get taken out because they were not making money for the casino.

I think part of it is that a lot of people don't like seeing a pay for quads of 125 points.

Sounds like an Okie. If so, I'm just north of you in Kansas. Keep an eye out on the promos. I think that on Tuesday Nights (could be I'm wrong) they DO have no-ante in some casinos. But, it is $5 minimum on a 6-deck table and not too bad a game if you like 6-deck.

My wife and I see the very same thing. This past weekend is a prime example, a woman puts $100 in a STP machine two down from me. She then stops an attendant and asks "How do you begin this game? I know how to play poker-Texas Hold'em-but I've never played VP!" She had no clue about the game or VP!
At our favorite casino machines have various pay tables for the same games. A 9/6 DDB may be next to a 7/5 DDB and many people don't even pay a bit of attention to pay tables as they move from machine to machine. We always carry a cheat sheet chart we made for all major games pay tables to check games. People often ask us what we are looking at when we are checking the pay tables. When told many are often still confused but others immediately want to know where they can give a copy to help them choose better machines. We send them a copy via email if they are interested- the chart also lists links to major VP sites including this one. As retired educators I guess we never want to miss an opportunity to help others keep some of their money and occasionally take some of the casinos!

Larry you just made me understand why this bothers me. I am a current educator and this is why I try to help all that I can. Case in point this weekend a friend of mine was playing JOB next to me and he was not max betting each hand. Well as fate would have it he was dealt 4 OAK and was kicking himself for not doing this. His excuse was that the stakes were too high. My response was play a level that allows you to make a max bet... Thank you VP.com I look forward to getting my first royal soon.Stephen

So does the casino... you make a bet and you lose well the casino wins twice...thanks for the tips on no ante I will look out for thisStephen

Good for you! I do something similar, not only for people I chat with while in a casino but out in the real world who know I play VP and ask about it. You're more organized than me in that you carry prepared info to give out; I think I'll steal that idea and put some basic VP book/software/site info on paper to have handy if the need arises.

People do not play good pay tables for one of two reasons:
1) They are stupid or
2) They don't know what they are doing
I call both sets of people "tourists." I still think they are better off than a slot player. Some get lucky.

Deloradeuces18,
Yeah, but they are often lucky. Wife and I were in Lake Charles waiting to have machine cleaned from ashes and spilled drink. While waiting for the attendant, a couple comes up behind us and puts $100 in the very machine. The man tells her, "play this while I get us a drink". She asks what to play. He responds, "I don't know play that Aces Bonus game." She draws 2 Aces first hand. "What do I keep?" "I don't know...keep the aces I guess." Sure enough two more aces - it locks up ($4K pay out) and she turns to him and says, "I think I broke the machine!" We congratulated them and left to calm down and get ourselves a drink and we don't drink.
Or even last week playing 50 play 5¢ the guy next to me is playing 50 hands/single bet and draws 4deuces/A on double bonus DW. Still playing 50/1 he is dealt 4D's and 5/Aces within the next hour.
Of course the VP players I love the most are those who say,"well I play Texas Holdem, etc." and think they should be able to play VP like a pro.
Funny how upset they often get when their money disappears very quickly.
