Is there something going on?

No need to keep your whining to yourself. I often find the best approach is to whine directly at the machines. Calling them bad names can change things around in no time

When I play VP with my 84 year old mother, she keeps slamming her purse against the glass. One of these days, I figure I'm going to be the proud owner of a broken VP machine.

This might be considered an Advanced Whining tip - not for beginners - but I've found that actual cussing or violence is counterproductive.  My research shows that only invokes the "You think this dry spell is bad, well take THIS!" subroutine in the game software.  That's a true bad boy that can't be defeated even by tinfoil apparel, intimate or otherwise.

So save the rough stuff until after that last Benjy has gone to Benjy Heaven.

Exactly! I purposely omitted  the "cussing" details which are also a part of her repertoire. For every %^%#$%# she yells on a bad hand, I'm there beside her, cranking out as many "Hallelujahs, Praise the Lords and Thank You Sweet Jesus's as I can.

Lizzy, "Thank you, sweet Jesus!" is actually one of my own real life faves.    You  need to work on your Mom to get her on that.

My Mom doesn't bother hitting the machine, she hits her Favorite Son.  For another Benjy.  She's on a nickels budget with a $1 mindset.  I've been working on getting that down to a quarters mindset.

Oh yea also what kind of cheese do you serve with the video poker whine?  Would that be Royal Cheese, or Cryin Cheese?

I've started out this year much better than last. Just on this past saturday, at one of those gaffed indian casino machines, in less than 2 hours I hit 2 Royals, 4 quad aces,  many low quads (some  w/kickers), and multiple other quads. Granted, much (not all) of this was on a 10-play machine, but I had this thread in mind while playing and payed special attention to there being no extra tightness due to the economy.
