OK Blackjack

Post by MikeA »

There was some discussion on another thread about Video Poker in Oklahoma and Blackjack was mentioned. As a general rule, 9/6 JOB is about as good as it gets. I checked last night (Friday, Feb 27, 2009) and didn't seen anything to write home about in the casinos around the Kansas/Oklahoma border on highway 77 (That's between Arkansas City, Kansas and Newkirk, Oklahoma.

The parking lots were full as we came home at around 11pm a First Counsel and Native Lights. But we had spent most of the evening in Newkirk at KAW Casino and that is where I was when I found out about their Blackjack offerings.

Like all the other casinos in Oklahoma, an ante is required on each hand. In most casinos, it is $.50 on each $100 bet.

However, on Tuesday and Friday nights, KAW waives the ante from 5pm until they close....and I'm not sure when the closing time is. Probably 2am but I'm guessing.

The table minimum is $2 with a max of $200 except for a "high limit" table where I think it's a $5 min and $500 max (woo!) The game is 6-deck, dealer hits soft 17 and you can split Aces only once. You can double on any first two cards and you can double after splitting. Typical rules except for only splitting Aces once. Penetration is DEEP...like 80% or even more.

If you like Blackjack, want to play low stakes and don't want to pay $.50 to make a $2 bet, the Tuesday and Friday in Oklahoma at the KAW is the place you want to be!

I think I played from around 5:30pm until almost 11pm and after giving the dealer a $1 toke, broke exactly even.

I am from North Texas and I make the trip to Winstar in Thackerville at least once every 3 months.  I usually only play VP JOB at .50 level is 9/6 and the progressive for the royal is very enticing.  I was wondering if anyone knows about winstar having no ante days?  The one thing you don't get from VP is great conservation and good laughs "if the table is full" and you have no sour attitudes present.  That is just my .05 on this topic.

im in ks about 140 miles from first council, and i can only make it down there when i find someone willing to drive me for gas money. really annoys me theres no hotel there for those of us without cars. not even a shuttle to the nearest hotel in ark city. sometimes an older asian guy named SONNY takes me there.

but why in the world would anyone pay that 50c ante when they can play BJ on the machine instead. the machine still pays the same 3-2 on BJ the table does. if i was there with u, id show u where it is.

have you ever played bj on a machine before? i've sat there and watched people play and the "dealer" somehow managers to get 21 like 40% of the time. i've never seen anything like it.

it seems like if you stand on a 12 against a 10, you win and if you hit a 10 against a dealer 6 and get a 10 to make 20, the dealer pulls a 21.

plus, are you sure the machines let you double down, split, double after split, etc.? i would check on that b/c i've seen some that don't.

another reason to play the tables is the conversation. it's fun to get on a roll, bet big and enjoy winning with other players.
