Best Casino in Detroit?

Post by Techman7 »

I am going to be in Detroit in a couple of weeks and wondered which if any of the 3 casinos there are good for video poker.

I believe the Greek Town casino is the best.  Also, it is the most 'friendly'.  MGM is good also, but I would stay out of the "Motown Casino".  Remember, they will automatically take out a city tax.  Enjoy, Detroit is a great town.  Take in the Greek Town resturants and if you like it, the theaters in Detroit are very good.  (Fox theater, Fisher theater and the Detroit Opera House)  With enough play, the casino will comp some shows for you.

By the way, I believe Greek Town and Motown are Tribal and MGM is the only nonTribal.  Hope this helps.

I go to Greektown about twice a month. VP and slots are both better there. Night life all around Greektown is great abd safe.  There is nothing at MGM except MGM and not as loose as Greektown.  Stay away from Motor City--bad area.

Hope this helps.GREEKTOWN is a Kewadin, tribal casino in Detroit and NOT affiliated with the two Kewadin casinos located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula:  St Ignace (just across the Mackinac Bridge) and "the Soo" (Sault Ste Marie Casino, far East end of the Upper Peninsula. Marian Ilich owns MOTORCITY Casino, with no tribal connection. (There is NO Motown casino, just an interesting Motown Museum, of music fame, on W Grand Blvd) MotorCity is one of the largest independently owned casinos in the US and likely the largest woman-owned casino in the US. Mike Ilich, her husband, owns the TIGERS, RED WINGS, Lil Caesar's Pizza and the Fox Theater. Metro area residents and visitors to Detroit enjoy the DIA (Detroit Institute of Arts), DSO (Detroit Symphony Orchestra) and Detroit Historical Museum all located on Woodward Avenue in close proximity. FORD FIELD (Lions) and CO AMERICA PARK, "COPA" (Tigers) are both located near GREEKTOWN casino. Check out their respective web sites to determine open hours.I enjoy all three Detroit casinos and feel equally safe at all three. Security is usually in sight. Last Saturday, we enjoyed the beautiful new buffet at MotorCity, on comps, as we were in that area. Upon leaving, my husband picked up a cup of coffee at the self service beverage bar. He was stopped by security and told he could not leave with that coffee.

I can back Marie up on the safety of playing any of the Detroit Casinos. I played in the market beginning when the Windsor Casino was in their temporay facility, in a revamped Art Museum. Three floors of jam packed people. I played at Motor City the MGM temporary facility in a revamped IRS building( no kidding) and Greektown and never once felt threatened. I did, however, always use valet. The only time I got nervous was one night when we played on the Riverboat Windsor had for awhile. Tanqueray had hit a progressive $1 Slot and when we exchanged Canadian to American we over 10Gs. We had a security guard accompany us to our car, gave him a good size tip and headed for the border. Now, this is when I got nervous, ah... not supposed to cross border with 10s without declaring it.
Little bitty droplets were running down my back because, as luck would have it ,we got one of the chatty border guards. Got through, blew through Mexicantown and boogied on I75. Promised myself, if it happened again to split it up. While the flavor lasts I won't tell about the next one.

Was at Greektown last night. Hit $500 on deuces wild $.50. Got the 4 deuces.  The hotel is running a special $99 a night and they give you $10 in free play.  MGM has 3 or 4 times more VP machines than Greektown but I don't feel they're as loose.  Have a good time.  Let us know how you liked it.

This is prolly going to bet to late to help you. I just moved back to Ohio from Detroit and found MGM to have the best selection, they bring in new versions of video poker alot. However, Motorcity is the most rewarding. Go downstairs to the lower level. Against the far wall are soem really good paying machines. They have a 6th Card on the Draw machine that yields a 6th card if you get 3 of a kind on the draw. While I lived there that was my ATM so to speak. Also the Triple play machines located across from these machines sure like coughin up royals. I averaged 2 a month.I found Greektown to be tight and a very uncomfortable setting. Prolly due to the low ceilings and cramped VP room.If you are itching to see Ceasar's windsor, go for it. Slots are far better there than VP tho and you'll leave the casino wishing you had gone to Ceasar's Vegas.Have a good trip !

Motor City. When I was there, again about 8 months ago now, if you enter the casino from the garage, 2nd floor of Casino. Pass the gift shop, take escalator down to 1st floor, hang a right and straight to the wall. The "loose" ones are teh set of 3 or 4 by the aisle, not against the wall.If they are in the same location that is.
