I haven't earned a hand pay yet, but I can't see myself tipping at all when I finally get one. I doubt that's "proper" etiquette. I give $5 to valet for parking my car, but that's a service. A hand pay seems like the opposite of a service (to me). I'd rather stick my ticket in a machine.
I mean, do they sing to you too or something?

There are all kinds of different views on that. I'll tip a small amount on hand pays ($10 on each $1,000), my own thinking being that the attendants don't jump over themselves to help me out on a losing day. Cocktail waitresses always get $1 when they bring me my coffee or soda, and when I use valet parking (rarely) they'll get a few bucks.
I know plenty of people who don't tip at all on handpays, so the attendants are used to it. You won't be alone if that's your preference.

Jean Scott used to tip $10 for a $1000 royal and $20 for a $4000 royal. However, she is playing much higher these days so I don't know exactly what she's tipping now. But it seems that the bigger the handpay the lower the tip percentagewise.

I usually tip $20 on a $2k handpay and $60 on a $4k hand pay but I have been known to tip $100 on a $4k handpay if I am running good. What I wanna know is if I can right those tips off on taxes

A flat $5 and a big ole smile, on any hand pay is good enough for my feelings not to be hurt.

Proper etiquette is 1-2% of handpay. Those folks arent' going to be holding you up if you fall on a hard dry spell so that rule sounds pretty good to me. i used to think twice about handpay tips but the servers are the ones who are out doing the hustling.

I have always stayed at appr 1% on hand pays. Usually on a hand pay, if the slot attendant is smart they'll break down the last $100 into twenties and tens so that you have an appropriate amount to tip. However, there have been times when I've been hand payed all hundreds and the slot attendant would stand there waiting and I said, "Do you really think I'm going to tip you a $100?"

Mule, handpays were broken down for the convenience of the receiving player. If the pay was gathered fast and courteously, that attendant deserved to get at least a $20. I couldn't imagine giving anyone a $100 tip, especially from a VP handpay considering ER and what amount of percentage would be "lost" on that tip.
