San Diego ??
Hey, friends...
Will be in San Diego the first weekend in August. Can any folks out there advise me where to play?
I've been to Barona and like it a lot, although I don't recall doing too well there. I'll have a car, but prefer not to drive too terribly far (for example, the Harrahs Rincon would be too far a drive, plus it is on a wind-y mountain road that scares the be-jeezus out of me to drive...did that once many years ago!).
I'm strictly a VP player, and especially like super times pay (and am learning and enjoying wheel poker), although any type of VP will do.
Appreciate any tips, suggestions on where to play (and directions on driving from Gas Light area).
Many thanks!

According to a couple of publications, Barona has the best VP for So Cal. I found Sycuan in El Cajon to have a decent inventory as does Viejas in Alpine. Both are about 20-30 mins out of SD area. Sycuan is a bit tricky with all the winding mountain roads. Viejas is off the Fwy. and considerably easier to get to.
For sycuan, hwy 8 out of SD to Alpine Blvd.exit and go right. right turn on Harbison canyon rd. left at sycuan road.
For viejas: continue on fwy to willows rd. exit. go left and follow road approximately 1 mile, casino on the left side. It's been awhile so you may want to visit their websites for machine/game availability or call for a concierge.

Yeah, Barona, Sycuan and Viejas are your best bet if you are staying downtown in the Gaslamp. (don't say Gas light, they'll know you're tourist right of the bat!)jk. IMO, the northern rez casinos such as Pala, Harrah's and Valley View are better, but they are a lot further of a drive. It would take you a good hour to get to Pala and that would be with no traffic. But if you're up for it, you take the 15 north, to the 76 east and go about 6 miles. It's a little winding, but not for too long. I've had lots of luck there and they have all kinds of Super Pay machines and all kinds of others, too.good luck!

I have always done great at Barona with STP. Good luck on your trip!

Thanks, everyone! I'll probably just stick to Barona, because I know how to get there <g>...although I may try a couple of the others that are closer in.
I'm also taking a friend and it will be her first casino visit - in her life! Should be fun - maybe I can get her hooked on video poker like I am.

Also, a special thanks to MRB about the gasLAMP district. I knew better, as I've been to SD 3-4 times. Musta been tired.

theo Theo, Viejas is more direct off the fwy. but wherever you decide to go to, enjoy your stay and good luck at the injun casino.

Thanks, ED...didn't realize Viejas was so easy to get to. Looks like both are about the same - driving time, wise.
Since I'll have all day Saturday, I may just try 'em both!
Appreciate the info...
