Wynn vs. Palazzo

Post by Eduardo »

I'm looking to book an anniversary trip on the strip. For once, I'm not worried so much about the pay tables as a great room, access to the strip, dining, etc etc. I'll still play a little but am mostly concerned about a nice overall stay.

I'm looking at the Encore and the Palazzo. Anyone have any insight into these places and what the pros and cons would be compared to the other?

Thanks!

Also, is there anything else I should be considering in this price range given what I'm looking for? Recommendations appreciated.

If price isn't a concern (but you don't want to stay at the most expensive in town) stay at the Venetian. The rooms are really nice. I stayed there recently and the rooms had been updated. I found the standard rooms at the Wynn to be very disappointing, plus access to other hotels by foot is not as good. A room at the venetian is sure NOT to disappoint.

Make sure to sign up for a card there b/c I've already gotten 3 free room offers in the last 10 months with little to no play besides the free slot credits i got when i checked in.

Eduardo,
As far as access to the strip, The Palazzo is by far the superior choice. From The Palazzo, you can cut through The Venetian and you come out right across from Caesars and The Mirage in the heart of the strip. From the Encore you would have to schlep somewhat to get to the same point.

vidopoker. have you stayed at the Palazzo to compare to the Venetian? I think the decor of the Palazzo would appeal more to us at the moment and obvioulsy we would have easy access to Venetian.

I don't think i would play much at Palazzo because their video poker was terrible last time i was there (weird game selections, none of my favorites).

But like i said this is more of a "vacation" vacation.

If you would allow me to stick my two cents in, the Palazzo is very nice. I have stayed at both the Venetian and Palazzo and I like the looks of the Palazzo better and it's newer. And, gambling there. Hmm, well I have to say when it's hot, it's hot.  I was there a month ago and the first night I was dealt a royal (this makes it the 4th time). Lucky for me I was playing dollars.  I agree there are some silly games there and are money wasters.  But do check out by the bar in the Palazzo the mega million slot, I do not usually play those things, but I won 800 in 4 pulls.  I wandered over to the Venetian and had a streak on the bank by the 1$ progressive VP. I don't like their prog.  Anyway, 3rd hand I was dealt 4A's with a 9, held the 4A's and pulled a 2. YIPPEE! A few hands later I held one A and got 3 more, but no kicker.  My heart was really racing when the next hand I was dealt 4 nines, and a few hands later 4 Q's.  It was like I couldn't lose. 45 minutes later I left with 4200.  This was a rare streak and the VP gods were with me.
I hope you do well and have the greatest time.  The pools at the Palazzo are beautiful as well. Emeril's has great banana cream pie!!

Luigi thank you for the good info on the Palazzo. It sounds about like I expected compared to the Venetian.

As for machines being really hot, I won't take that into my consideration but glad it worked out for you in those wins!

Wherever you go, DO get and use a player's card - it will pay off in the long run.  Good luck.

Eduardo:
No, I have not stayed at the Palazzo. On the free room offers, you can choose either and I have purposely chosen NOT to stay at the Palazzo. The Venetian is right next door and the vibe there is much more confortable at least for me. The Palazzo just feels like one big open space and the 3 times I have been there (all on weekends), it's always empty and feels creepy. I ate at one of the restaurants there on a Friday night and there were 3 people inside.

I would go with the Venetian, but that's just me. It's right next store to the Palazzo (connected) so you can always visit there. Plus, if the Venetian is cheaper, go with that. The rooms are beautiful.

Good luck with whatever you choose.
