Mastering Advantage Play

Post by Casino Knight »

My internet was down over the weekend, so I thought I'd practice on my
DDB skills using Win Poker.  I guess I'd become complacent with my play
and the first couple of sessions were a real wake up call.  After a
couple of hours of hard core practice, I sharpened my skills to an
acceptable level and was pleased in that my last two sessions I'd only
made 2 minor errors.

So with a little time to kill this afternoon, I dropped in at Vee Quiva to check out the $.25 progressives.
I've had some pretty good success with those, and had I been able to
get a seat I would have pursued the $1500+ DDB progressive.  However,
all the seats were full, and I ended up on some upright MG/MD IGT's.

Early on I noticed that I was catching more hands than usual and
attributed it to practice, when I was dealt A A A 2 K. Remembering how
I'd hit a $10K AWK by holding 3 A's and a kicker earlier this year, I really thought about
holding the one I had aswell.  BUT.....That's not the play on DDB. So I
didn't, and on the re-deal I ended up with A A A K A.  Oh well $800 is
still a keeper.

So after playing down another $50, for no hits, I moved to an adjacent
machine and started over.  Full houses, straights and flushes came
along nicely, and then I'm presented with another Aces problem that
required all of my knowledge on DDB.  Trying to recall all the things I
practiced over the weekend, I finally made up my mind, held the cards
and hoped for the best.

I hope other "AP" players will concur with my decision.  The problem and results are presented below for your inspection and consideration.

Thanks for reading.

Great hit! But you really didn't earn it. You could have tossed that 4 and gone for a 2 or 3 instead. But I won't fault your cowardice.

Great job!

You mean you didn't want to hold a solo ace and hope for the T J Q K of the same suit?
