The fine art of whining

Post by marie meijer »

Relax Webman, this is not about those fun/frustrating contests! An incident that happened at Little River Casino, Manistee, MI, this week prompted this topic. We had driven four hours from home to get there and planned to use their lovely pool for swimming during our two day visit. As I was about to use my room key to enter the pool, I read a sign posted on the door "The pool is closed December 1-4. Sorry about the inconvenience." I learned the pool was closed for cleaning and contained cleaners and acids. I discussed my feelings with the supervisor at the registration desk. She was kind enough to issue me a food voucher. She said they had phoned everyone with reservations to explain the closed pool. Apparently, it was an oversight by the desk clerk not to mention the closed pool when I made our reservations. It's a beautiful, rustic, Native American casino with lots of pine and stone. Many interesting artifacts and authentic costumes are on display.Earlier this year, I was accidentally 86ed from MGM Detroit casino due to a case of mistaken identity. Instead of leaving, I asked to speak to a supervisor to express my sentiments. Thanks to forum members for good advice and encouragement, my family enjoyed a great meal at Wolf Gang Pucks, courtesy of security, their way of apologizing. I thought I may have been spotted on security cameras driving a tad erratically in their deserted parking structure or smuggling yogurt in. I was there early, had not eaten and knew Breeze restaurant did not open until 10:00.Have any of you had success with whining and received compensation/satisfaction at casinos?

I once got the room I paid for instead of a crappier one for the same price.

Nope, and they started closing the pool and arcade at 6pm.  I guess somebody got paid big money to figure out that they would get more people on the floor by closing the pool early.  I just wonder if they factored in all the people that don't go now because the rest of the family has nothing to do.

Don't the casinos usually close the pools early during Winter hours anyway? I remember a few casinos I have stayed at over the years having limited hours esp. during the December Holiday time period...

PS, Bravo Marie for giving 'em hell! I have, for the most part, always gotten what I wanted when asking at the casinos by being friendly and conversational. It's nice b/c when I go to Vegas after a few months, some of the floor people and dealers remember me which is nice b/c they see thousands of people in between my visits. I remember on my first visit to the Orleans, one of the floor supervisors wouldn't give me any food comps. Now when I go, I just ask and it's done. If that does not work, asking and then pestering until I get what I want... I figure it this way: you won't get what you don't ask for and the worst they can say is no!
