VPGenius site question

Post by kjohn »

I've been using this site to improve play and have a question...I guess I'm no genius at these things....When using the Hand Analiser   format what does the VAR/CW mean, also what is ZZ 1P etc...I couldn't find anywhere on the site that gave an explanation.

There are two numbers under VAR/CW.  The first one is the variance (per coin) for the given held cards.  When two plays have nearly equal expected value, the hold with the higher variance is usually the hold that is the biggest gamble and generally has a greater chance of some high-valued outcomes and, at the same time, a greater chance at low-valued outcomes, often outcomes of zero payback.  I see a little inconsistency with the variance and what he calls the "Avg." since the average is based on a 5-coin bet and the variance is based on a 1-coin bet.I have no idea what words the acronym "CW" stands for (maybe "Combined Wins"), but the genius's second number is the percentage of paying hands that you will get with that hold.I'm guessing that "ZZ" means something like "Zeroz" (intentionally misspelled) or "Zilch/Zero" since under it we find the number of combinations of final hands that are worthless from the given hold.  1P is the number of combinations that make high pairs...and the other numerals/initials indicate the number of combinations for other types of paying hands. We could use this to analyze b74's question about AQJ vs. QJ (though here I used 9-6 Jacks or Better rather than a Double Bonus game).  Here, with the figure from the genius's Web site for 9-6 Jacks or Better, we see that AQJ is a less risky play because its variance is smaller and also a less valuable play because its average value is lower.  We can also see that 37.5% of the final hands pay something when holding QJ and only 37.0% of the possible final hands pay off when holding AQJ.Best Play         AnalysisCards HeldAvgVar/CWZZ 1P 2P 3K ST FL FH 4K SF RF

Great info...and as I expected on some hands the differences are very small...Oh how I long for the old days of coin in and coin out and just plain simple VP without all the new perks and bonus's...I remember playing at Palace Station years ago when the 4A bonus first came out and how exciting it was to  get $100 for the aces. I don't even think they had credits then just good old dirty money..Never even thought about pay tables or variances etc... But I don't like cell phones or HDTV either...Thanks for the great explanation....
