Reaction to WINNING?

Post by mightwin »

I'll ask everyone over here -
What did you do when you got your first royal flush?  How did you react?

I tried to ask Eduardo what he did after that impressive hit - but didn't realize he was STILL hitting....good for him.

I usually just sit there with my mouth open, in shock.  I don't make a sound.  I had some lady come up to me after my first big hit (on slots) and ask me why I wasn't excited (I was, but still in shock).

My first royal was progressive, but the "count" didn't stop - so they had to review the tapes.  I didn't know it was a progressive and was so excited about the 4k I thought I won.  They shut down the whole stand of machines.  A gentleman on the other side was asked to cash out - he comes to my side of the bank (of machines) and gets told not to play, they were closing them down too.  Security had to remove him after he started in with his ranting and raving directed at me - not much of a gentleman....after all.

I have to smile when I go past someone winning $5 (total) and they're hootin' and hollerin' up a storm - having the time of their life.  I always wonder what they'd do if they hit a jackpot.

Good luck to every one.

mightwin,

Great question. My first Royal was on (25¢) Aces & Faces on 11-18-2005. I just sat there for almost half a minute -shocked, unsure, quiet. It was only the second time I had played video poker. Then I called my wife over. I hadn't played VP long enough to realize at the time how rare RF could be.

My first $Royal ($4,000) was my "Dream Royal" exactly four months later on JOB (3/18/2006). I still use that picture for the wall paper on my phone. It occurred the night after my wife hit her first RF. We had taken the two day trip to celebrate our "anniversary".

Before we left for the casino I had shared with my wife a vivid dream I had had several nights before of hitting a $RF and in the dream I even saw the exact machine. Before we called it a night I decided to play $ instead of 25¢. A man was playing the machine I dreamt about and hit 4 deuces as I played slowly down from him. He then left and his wife then played it with no luck. She complained he left it cold. As soon as she moved I took the machine. I had only played the machine for a few minutes when I was dealt the King and Queen of Hearts. RF in Hearts.

My wife was a few feet away in line cashing our tickets for night. This time I yelled for her to come over with a great big smile and yelling my dream it happened.

It was my "Dream Royal" So I keep it on my phone to remind me dreams can come true and of our special love!

After over 60+ 25¢ or greater RF's between us (4 dealt ones-which are always special) we still get excited about each one.

I know everyone treats their first RF differently but we wish everyone many RF's in their play.

My initial reaction on the first RF was, "Finally!"  I'd been playing for about two years.  That was on single play nickels.

My favorite irate customer jackpot story is about an older gentleman, probably on his first casino visit, playing Deuces who hit a wild RF and just couldn't understand why he didn't get the $1,200 RF progressive amount.  I tried explaining it to him, other people playing in the same bank tried explaining it to him, and casino staff tried explaining it to him.  This guy wouldn't stop ranting & raving long enough to listen to anyone.  He carried on so much that I finally left.  That was about 10 years ago and for all I know he's probably still there, ranting & raving.

Great picture Lucky Larry...and wife....Such a pretty site....I can't even remember my first Royal..I do remember it was at Palace Station years ago...but my husband had a funny story...He does not gamble...but on this one occasion he sat beside me to chat and I encouraged him to just try the game...I was playing nickles so I put $5 in his machine (No way was he going to spend his money) and sure enough he hit a royal.  He had no idea what he had won or why the machine quit working and said,  call attendant.....That was when everything was hand pay, so he just sat there and said,  "Where is my $200"  I explained to him that they would bring it shortly...When he got his money he got up to leave and I pointed out that he still had some credits on his machine...He just looked at me and said, "Why would I play anymore?  I won and that's half a table saw."   He still has the saw and still doesn't gamble...Smart man I married....

First Royal-My husband and I were on a cruise. At this time we didnt play much VP and didnt know strategy too well. Well we get dealt a straight with 4 to the royal. I say honey you know if we throw that 1 card away we have a chance at a RF that pays 1300 bucks (progressive) NO dont throw away a winning hand! Honey its only 25 quarters (dont really remember what it paid but you kow what Im saying) HMMM OK honey-and WHAM! There it was! After that we played VP pretty exclusively for years!

My first Royal was the same confusion that others have mentioned. I was actually at a casino for a business meeting and had never played video poker. This was many years ago and the machines were pretty simple back then. While killing time waiting, I wagered two coins in J&B and eventually hit a Royal. I was such a newbie that I could not even compute the amount of the jackpot and so the attendant explained that if I had wagered five coins instead of two, it would have been a much larger jackpot. I was (a) stunned, and (b) determined to never again play less than five coins.

My first $1 Royal on five coins I remember very clearly. There was a bank of machines right behind me and someone there hit a Royal. While the attendant was there getting the drivers license and other info, a Royal popped up on my machine. I grabbed the attendant and squeaked, "I hit one too!!"

After that I hit them regularly and it became less and less of a big deal, but my first $5 Royal shocked me because it was with a one-card hold and totally unexpected. Not long afterwards, I hit my largest jackpot ever (in Laughlin) for almost $75K on STP, and I freely admit that I did get a bit giddy on that one!  :)

I hit a $5 Royal Wednesday night and because I was busy concentrating on calculating the tip and the amount I wanted in cash vs check, I guess I didn't seem appropriately grateful, because the guy next to me was giving me a hard time for not being excited at all. Like Mightwin, I have seen players come close to a heart attack with a very small win, and sometimes I wish it could still be that way for me, but VP has become sort of a business deal or investment by now, and you gotta hit a certain number of Royals to stay alive, not for excitement or joy.

1st Royal came at Harrah's Joliet IL for $1K.Back then I liked to play at the bar & enjoy some cold adult beverages. That night the bar was full so I just hovered around waiting for a seat. There was a gal there just typing away(that is playing lots of hands at a break neck speed) & shoveling 20 after 20 into the machine until she finally had enough. After settling into her vacated seat & inserting a 20 I hit play max & lo & behold a dealt Royal! After nervously & carefully holding all cards I made a mighty war whoop & rose out of my seat! After receiving a hand pay (at that time any hit over $400 was hand payed) I bought a whiskey drink & 1 for a nearby well wisher (everybody else was giving me the serious stink-eye & menacing vibes) & got the H outta there.A sweet moment & one that is becoming rarer for me lately!

I wasn't quite a novice but not yet really experienced.  Playing $1 machine I knew was bad pay (6/5 DB) but wanting to play (Harrah's Cherokee, NC).  I was only betting $3 a hand & hitting pretty good (flushes, full houses).  Hubby told me I better bump it up to $5 "just in case".  Well not too long later I held the lone Ace of clubs & then it starts flashing " call attendant".  I thought I'd tilted it.  Hubby had to point out I had a $4,000 royal. That was 2000.  It was 2007 before I hit another.  50 cent Deuces Wild (again at Harrah's Cherokee).  $2200+ progressive.  I knew exactly what I had that time!
