Every deal is a short term event.  The more one plays, the farther they get from that shortest of short term status - it doesn't really matter how they  describe their play philosophy.
 
And, the longer one plays, the higher the probability that their play results will approach the theoretical return for the game(s) played, lessened by the deviations from "ideal" strategy, either deliberate or accidental.
 
As long as one accepts that fact, and is can have fun, that's fine.
