Allen's Beginners Luck

Post by Lucky Larry »

This weekend I realized someone was standing behind and to the side of me watching me play multi-hand. I turned and he graciously apologized for interrupting my play. He ask about video poker, how many hands I was playing (25) and how it played. We talked for a few minutes about VP and the benefits over regular slots. He wanted to try and asked if he could play next to me. I suggested he start with Deuces Wild. He puts in $20 and playes 5 hands on 5¢ VP. We discussed strategy as hands occurred and I played my hands in between. After 15-20 minutes of coaching he was doing fair on his own, occasionally asking me to check his hand. I'm playing 25 hands and catch 1 hand of deuces and then we both get dealt three to a RF and I catch a regular RF. I'm excited. I'm on a roll.

A few minutes later he says, "I got four deuces." I nod, .... something excited about the way he said it .... it sinks in and I turn to his screen. Sure enough he has been dealt 4 deuces on the bottom hand. 5 hands with 4 deuces right in front of me. I smiled, I congratulated him, and we reminded him to hold all four of them. Allen immediately cashes out. Thanks me and leaves to find his wife.

Mrs. L turns to me and knows I'm dying inside but still happy for Allen. Its been at least eight month of heavy deuce play since I been dealt deuces and I'm still waiting.

After Allen left, I would occasionally tap his screen just so those four beautiful dealt deuces would come up. In helped me control my tears as I was trying to reassure myself it was possible.

Gave Allen the VP web address so he could join. Allen if you've joined congratulations again.

LL

Please don't tell me you cried over someone else's good luck. As a regular gambler you know your time will come at some point-sheesh!

Great Story and congrats to you for graciously helping out not just another VP player but a fellow human being.

I can remember the first time someone helped me with my VP play at AC many years ago and I have not forgotten the thrill of playing and hitting my first RF after that.

Good for You LL.

Welcome to the forum.

Hey, you know "there is no crying in gambling". I've been blessed too many times in life to seriously be jealous of Allen's hit. I had hit a full pay RF maybe 30 hands before when we both held 3RF. Life is too short, I'm too old, and anytime someone can take a little extra from the casinos more power to them.

You are both right. Helping someone else always pays dividends sooner or later. I've been blessed to having many mentors in life and hope to give back a little to others - part of the reason I went into education.

One of the most enjoyable things about the regulars at our Isle is that we all root for each other, help each other when we question a hand, and stop to watch each other when we go for those "big hits." Makes winning and losing more enjoyable. Sure is nice too when you gotta go on a break to know someone is watching out for you and your machine.
