Re: New Favorite Game
You generally have to fight for a machine since the local youngster play 1 hand/ 1 5¢ at a time to buy access to the bar drinks. They are often there for hours risking $5-10 @ 5¢/hand all night so they can get drinks.
Thanks for the info, Larry. Some call factoring in the free booze a form of "Advantage Play" although Dancer took issue with that in a recent column.Although I don't remember when I first saw SDB, I was enamored with it since it had the 600-coin payoffs for quad Js thru Ks in addition to the other Double Bonus quad payoffs. And then, at first, I was blown away when some months later I saw SDDB, since it seemed like there were a whole lot more quad payoffs with typically only the sacrifice of 1 coin on the Full House (often from 8 to 7). Quad aces averaged 1324 coins with SDDB instead of 800 with SDB and more than half of final hand quad aces now were accompanied by a kicker. That was great by itself. The average for Quad 2s-4s now moved up to 508 from 400. And a kicker with the faces paid more too! It took me a little longer to realize that the average payoff for Quad Js-Ks actually went down from 600 coins to 450, since the non-kicker quad faces decreased so significantly. So the average Quad in SDDB turned out to be "only" 8.5% bigger (461 coins to 425). And SDB typically had a 400-coin payoff on the straight flush when most of the SDDB's paid 250.But still, SDDB has about 2 1/2 times as many 800-coin payoffs...and that's what lures a lot of us to play. I still think SDDB is a pretty interesting game, but you really need to hit some quads when you play for any length of time!Congrats again to your daughter!

Wow that is interesting. I have never seen this game but like the looks of it. Where is the negative other than the 200 for a 5-1- quad? Does it pay 10 or 15 for trips?

Does it pay 10 or 15 for trips?Quad 5-Ts generally pay 250 coins. Payout for trips is 15 coins.Negatives (vs. SDB) from previous message:(1) sacrifice of 1 coin on the Full House (often from 8
to 7). (2) average payoff for Quad
Js-Ks down from 600 coins to 450.(3) SF drops from 400-coin payoff to 250.If comparison with DDB, the negatives are a drop from 9-6 to 7-5 (or 6-5) for full house and flush.

I consider it a Casino Loss - when the multi-denominational bar machines are controlled by a few minimum denomination players it keeps more serious players from access to the machines resulting in a loss for the casino. Watched a "mini-bar player' get up. Another guy went to the machine put in $100 and started playing 25 hands of 25¢ DDB ($31.25/hand). He was hitting so he moved to 50 hands (62.50/hand) versus mini-bar's 1/1 5¢ bet or 1/5 25¢ bet; He caught a Hand Payout and stopped to go tell his wife. Upon his return the mini-bar player was in his place slugging away at 5¢/hand. He turned and left frustrated. How much was the casino losing or potentially losing?
Slot tech have said there has been talk of setting a minimum amount bet/hand. Not sure how they would configure the machines or make it an honor system. But, it can be frustrating to us serious players.

Larry, I totally agree with you. My previous comment was meant as sarcasm, but I neglected to put one of those emoticons so that it could be easily recognized as such.

Sorry, the mistake was mine since I did a quick read of your response I didn't catch the tone in my first read.
There are a couple of regulars who we watch drink until they can't/don't make good decisions and then gripe about their loss. Last trip we watched a couple play for a several hours and drink the whole time. They were up $500 and started going down and at the end put $100 bill after $100 bill playing max play ($12.50/hand) and making mistakes. Down about $800 (plus the $500) they ran out of money.
