NYS Racino VP Question. .
It's been several years since I played VP slots in A/C. I now play at a nearby NYS Racino and notice a difference of information posted on the front of slot machines: The A/C machines always displayed a sticker saying that cards were always dealt from a SINGLE 52 - card deck. None of the NY Racino machines display such a claim. Why the difference? This makes me wonder if the NYS Racino (and other?) VP slots deal from MULTIPLE decks. Many gamblers will say it's impossible to deal five different cards from multiple decks, but I know computer-controlled slots can be programmed to do anything you want. I have to wonder if the card decks contain duplicate cards to bias the deal/draw outcomes. For example the deck could contain "duplicates" of the less desirable non-paying cards in a specific VP version. A non-standard deck cold contain, not 52, but hundreds, or even thousands of cards. The computer could be programmed to allow only one of several identical cards to be displayed when duplicates are internally selected. What explanation is there when you see different card patterns dealt when playing different VP versions with the same decks but with different winning combinations? Could this theory explain, in part, why we see apparently tight and loose slots? I know there are legitimate win/lose variations as a slot is played, but that is only part of the story.

If you look at the "HELP" screen on one of those games, it should tell you whether the game is played from a single 52-card deck.

NYS racinos have lottery based or class II slots and video poker machines. The results on all the machines in the casino are drawn from a single, centralized bingo or lottery type awarding system. What this means is that no matter what you are dealt, hold or draw on your machine your result will be that which was next from the award tray. You can be dealt a royal flush and discard it, another will take it's place when you hit draw. This is true in many of the newer casinos/racinos back east...I know New York, Maryland, and I believe Pennsylvania, Delaware, and maybe Florida still as well have class II machines only.

Mule, are you saying that if a VP slot deals me a straight and I discard all five cards then the next hand will be that same straight? Do the cards I hold have nothing to do with the final hand? Can I just discard all or none of the dealt cards and receive the same results in the next deal?Fred in NYS

It may not be the same EXACT straight, or the same exact hand that was dealt but the payout outcome will be exactly the same. When you have a winning hand, it is because it was predetermined. Skill has NOTHING to do with videopoker on class II machines.

The paytable also has nothing to do with the return of the game. I heard a long time ago that the payback in these racinos was set to about 92%. It could even be worse now.

Correct...most of these casinos back east pay a very high tax to the state. The state usually mandates the returns at a minimum of 80-85%, and I bet they are keeping those returns real close to the minimum to maximize revenue as long as people are playing. So don't expect to be playing full pay deuces wild with a return over 100% there.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I play at the local Tioga Downs Racino once a week and have enjoyed some unusual winnings at the quarter slots. I usually play VP deuces and bonus versions, also Wheel of Fortune, Triple Diamond, and 5X pay. In the last 6 weeks deuces produced, among lesser wins, a natural royal and 4 deuces (The Royal was my first natural in the last ~25 years!) During the same time frame the wheel produced a 2000-coin ($500) win 3 times. After one of the 2000-coin wins I took out the money and tried a triple diamond slot and hit a 3X-3X-? for a $640 win. The wins were great but overall the racino won.Fred
