Re: Slowing down play?
Are you aware that you can choose 1 of 3 speeds on most machines when playing VP? If I am not doing well I sometimes go to the medium speed to prolong my play. If you choose the slowest play it really slows down your game/play which means your $ last longer reguardless of win/loss. Obviously the casinos prefer you to play a max spped.

Phil,
I too occasionally play DDB and usually 50¢ 3/5 play with a low budget. Like Mary, if i get on a run of 3-4 hands not hitting I change speed, change which button I hit, or take a few deep breaths, take a sip of water, I even change out of the game. All actions which are designed to change my timing. But, $300 doesn't last too long so often switch to lower variance higher return Deuces or JOB to rebuild my account.

I've had some luck changing games or purposely waiting before I hit the draw button. I've often wondered if it really works or if I'm just imagining it. Good to hear someone else has had the same experience. My wife plays very slow and she can play .25 Jacks all day without losing much. It's amazing how little it costs her to play. She's been playing for about 2 years and hasn't gotten a Royal yet. When she finally gets one, it will be a very cool thing.

The Royal will come for your wife. A month ago I held an Ace on 3 play JOB and hit one.
Like you I have a hard time playing 25¢ even on 3-5 play. But, as I thought about it last night, I rationalized that hitting a 25¢ royal would be 3X the allocated budget and even AWAK would be 2.5X your $300 budget. Not bad. Sometimes I look at our gambling as entertainment but when we're winning I look at it as investing. If I could double my stock market investments I'd take that.
When we drive 2 hours we too want to play as long as possible. After reading about the RNG and reading the forum I began to think about the RNG and its all about timing, I thought about changing the factors I controlled - my pace, the games I play, and the number of hands. This led me to trying different options like those above. I don't have statistical data to back up my results but my general belief is that it helps me stay in the game longer. It sure hasn't hurt. I also realized that by playing multi-hands (MH) I could spread out my risks. I like that I usually get some of my bet back. Since our casino has great return 5¢ abd one 25¢ 3-5 play machine. I now play more MH. Even on 5¢ MH I found I occasionally get the big G (see The Streak) and 3 G's last year but more often lots of slow built up pay outs. I can often play $200 all night long building up to 500-600 and cashing out and starting with 200 seed money. I also play lots of low variance games DW, DWB, DDB, and even Bonus. Then I'll switch to TDB, SDB or Super Aces for a few hands to check my timing. It has been generally very successful and being on a limited retirement budget my G account matters a lot. Win a lot = more fun trips; lose = stay at home and cut the grass.
Best wishes,

Playing less than the max bet is not worth it unless it is a really strong pay table. 10/6 on DDB. the chances of pulling a royal are very slim, but the AAAA2 is going to pay the same multiple of coins at 1 coin or 5 coins...
But if you are going to play 1 coin at 1 dollar, play 5 coins at $0.25!!!
It tilts me SOO hard seeing people play 1 coin at $5 on a $5 machine rather than sitting down at a $1 machine at max bet. But I also love it when players do this at progressives! THANK YOU KEEP DOING IT PLEASE!
Try to find a multi line machine at $0.05. Like a 5 line machine. Playing more hands at a lower denomination will help expand your bank roll.
I like to have a budget of at least half of what the royal is if I go out for a session. I play DDB mainly as well.

I like changing which button I push for deal-max bet, deal, or pushing the bet one 5 times. I SWEAR it helps LOL
