Deuces What is the Right Play

Post by spxChrome »

I've been playing Double Deuces more and more and always have to ponder the right play.  The paytable is

1000 Quad Deuces
2000 Quad Deuces/Ace
800 for 5 Aces
250 quad 2-5
100 quad 6-k
125 Wild Royal
60 for sf

My questions is on these hands with 2 Deuces do you hold the 2 Deuces only and go for the quad dueces?

6-K such as 22kkx

Wild Royal such as 22AKx

Str Flush 2278x

And the last situation do you hold a single Ace with 2 Dueces and hold the single ace with 3 dueces?

A22xx
A222x

Personally I always hold 2 deuces.

If dealt a straight and 2 deuces I hold the deuces. I don't care about even money. Go for a win!

spx, the game you're describing is usually called Double Bonus Deuces (Double Deuces pays 2000 for all quad deuces, whether or not an ace is present.)  The version of DB Deuces that pays 60 for a sf has the max EV plays as:22kk (Wild quads) > 22 + AK (Wild Royal) > 22A > 2287 (Straight Flush if natural cards are 76,87,98, or T9) > 22As Slapi says, you hold the bare deuces instead of keeping a dealt straight or even a dealt flush, but it's better to go for the intermediate hands and hold four to a SF, RF, quints, rather than always going for quad deuces.  The deuces + ace kicker pays off big with either quint aces or 2222A, so it's a worthwhile investment. If you are playing a similar game that pays less than 60 for the SF, hold the bare deuces rather than a 4-card SF.  In that case, Slapi's play and max EV coincide. And the max EV play with 3 deuces is also to hold the Ace:  222A
