Hi from Frank Kneeland

Post by Frank Kneeland »

Just saying Hi. I just joined, after having had Greg Brown on my new radio show, "Gambling With an Edge", with co-host Bob Dancer. What a super guy. Greg, not Bob...Well Bob's great too, it's just I already knew him...Oh you know what I meant. Anyway-This whole concept of videopoker.com blows me away. A gaming company helping people to play better. I never would have expected it.If you want to hear Greg Brown on my archived show page, go to:https://www.progressivevp.com/radio_show.php And click on the link Feb-3rdSincerely,FK~Only a fool a always certain. Hi Frank and welcome to our forum.

I've been reading your posts on vpfree with great interest. I also love the stories Mickey Crimm shares on there. He used to post alot here but I haven't seen him in a couple years. Maybe you can ask him to come back and join you here.

Your radio show with Bob Dancer was fun to listen to. I didn't get to hear it live, but clicked the archive version from your site. Good stuff. Really looking forward to finding out why to bet $6 dollars rather than $5 at Dotty's. Bob better not hold out on us with that juicey tidbit.

Again welcome to videopoker.com and by the way, isn't "1" a prime number also?

So glad you liked the show. I'm having a ton of fun doing it. I hope it shows.Since you asked, 1 is not a prime.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_number http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_are_zero_ ... _composite As to why $6 is better EV than $5, Bob has sworn me to temporary secrecy.  He did say, all were welcome to go to Dotty's and figure it out on their own. I guess part of doing radio is saving stuff to do on-air.I've got some really good and hopefully funny material for my Feb 10th show, hope you all like it. And please feel free to email: gamblingwithanedge@gmail.com with questions I'll answer on-air.FK~To deny fate is to alter the course of a stream that must find its own way. To divert it would be to divert the truth.

Since you asked, 1 is not a prime.

Thank you Frank, we are quasi-intelligent folks here..so we already knew that one wasn't a prime. But my bud 3DogNight told me that it was the lonliest number that he ever knew..

Next time I order steak, if they just bring one I'll tell them it's not a prime.

Frank, I have a couple questions on progressives for you, one for here
and one for your show.  I doubt if I will be able to listen to it live
or call in so feel free to use either of them if you deem one worthy.FOR
YOUR SHOW:  I presume people ask all the time about your largest or
larger jackpots.  I wonder if there is a story about the quickest
jackpot that your team ever was involved in.  I would imagine it might
be somewhat anticlimactic if you assembled a large number of people to
begin a play and the jackpot was hit by someone in the first few hands,
possibly even before all the players were able to begin, and then there
was nothing left for anyone to do.  Any stories that this scenario
brings to mind?FOR VIDEOPOKER.COM:  A number of forum members
like to post jackpots that they won, some on progressive machines, and
I've noted that most (if not all) show that the payoffs are rounded up
to the nearest coin for the denomination being played.  My questions:1.
Is rounding up a requirement or does it vary from casino to casino or
perhaps from game manufacturer to game manufacturer?  What alternatives
have you seen?2.  Is the lowest possible payoff equal to "RESET"
or "RESET plus ONE COIN"?  If, say, royals were hit back to back on a
25-cent machine that had a 0.1% meter, how precisely does the mechanism
work for the second royal?

With the play after the first royal, after 5 more coins are played, do those 5
coins count toward the next play something like this:

5 coins x 0.001 = 0.005 quarters = 0.125 cents added to reset?

Does the meter show $1000.00 or does it round up to $1000.01?

And, regardless of what it shows, would it payoff 4000 coins or 4001?

Any logic behind that would be appreciated.  Thanks

Of course if anyone else on the forum has insight into the 2nd set of questions, feel free to chime in.

I think some of the confusion about whether or not 1 can be prime comes from math teachers in early grades who introduce primes with something like this:"A prime number is a positive whole number that is divisible only by itself and one."Fairly young children who have no introduction into number theory or abstract algebra can understand that sentence, but the brightest of them will reason that the number one does in fact fit that incomplete "definition."If instead the following sentence would be used when introducing primes, there would possibly be less confusion:"Every prime number is a positive integer that has exactly one positive divisor other than 1."Since 1 has exactly zero such divisors other than itself, this alternative introduction excludes 1 as a candidate; so there should be fewer bright students being confused.

I will indeed answer your on-air question on-air. For your videopoker.com Q&A:Your questions in <><1.
Is rounding up a requirement or does it vary from casino to casino or
perhaps from game manufacturer to game manufacturer?  What alternatives
have you seen?>I believe rounding up is a casino to casino policy, and know some that do, and some that don't. If they do, it's for ease of paperwork, or lack of exact change. Some places don't want to have to stock pennies.<2.  Is the lowest possible payoff equal to "RESET"
or "RESET plus ONE COIN"?  If, say, royals were hit back to back on a
25-cent machine that had a 0.1% meter, how precisely does the mechanism
work for the second royal?>EXACTLY. My teem hit back to back Royals on two occasions. One got something like $12,864.71, the other got $4,000.00. That was at the Stardust. The other double hit was at the Hilton, which had a backup meter, so it's not a good example. Oh, the reset can also be anything they want. The Frontier 3-Meter reset its RF to $2,653.26. I believe their goal was never to make it look like it had just been hit.

<With the play after the first royal, after 5 more coins are played, do those 5
coins count toward the next play something like this:
5 coins x 0.001 = 0.005 quarters = 0.125 cents added to reset?>No, unless there is a backup meter. The reset s always that, "reset" and you instantly have a new progressive JP with .01c progression on it.

<Does the meter show $1000.00 or does it round up to $1000.01?>Any fractional MR is usually rounded up to the lowest coin amount the meter can display.

<And, regardless of what it shows, would it payoff 4000 coins or 4001?>If it displays 4000 it pays 4000. If it displays 4001 it pays 4001.
<Any logic behind that would be appreciated.  Thanks>They are required to pay jackpots based on only what the meter displays. The internal accounting in the progressive is irrelevant to them, since they can set it to anything they like. The only thing they can't do is remove money from a meter once it's there.~Frank Kneeland, Author of The Secret World of Video Poker Progressives--A History and How-To of Video Poker Slot Teams in Las Vegas.  www.progressivevp.com
