ddb strategy

When playing DDB (single or triple play) and you are dealt 2 pair with one of the pairs possibly drawing to a quad w/kicker (i.e 22). Would you advise to save only the one pair?  I know if dealt a pair of AA in this scenario you only keep the AA.

I think the norm is to hold both pairs...with the AA you already have your money back even if you don't improve the hand but with just 22 and no face cards you loose that hand...could be wrong and I'm sure some of the gurus will correct me if I am but that's how I play it...

Kjohn, you are correct. The best strategy play is to hold the two pair in all cases except the aces.

Ok so keeping both pair also goes with being dealt 22 and 88?? I keep thinking you would want to go for the Quad with a possible kicker because you only get your money back with the 2 low pair combo.. Is it worth the risk??

You also have the chance of a full house when holding two pairs...

When looking for proper strategy the key is the average return of any particular hold. If one starts thinking about a specific result (like a quad) it's easy to forget about the bigger picture. That is why strategy software programs have been developed. We can now check out any hand that interests us. For 9/6 DDB the return for 2288 is 8.4 credits. If you hold just 22 the return is 4.4 credits. That is an average loss of 4 credits per hand.
