Bonus or Double Double Bonus 3-way

Post by Patrick13 »

I was told on the following hand such as K J 8 3 2 KJ not suited that you should just keep one face card...should you always keep both? Thanks!!

Most VP games are covered over at vpgenius.com so when you have question like this you can easily find the answer.  Yes, keep both, but I'd suggest trying to find the answer for yourself so you know how to do it in the future.

Shadowman, I assume that  in the case of a contest, particularly single play, the best strategy is to keep one card in the hopes of hitting a royal. Am I right?

Probably not. Most contests are determined by having one or two top paying dealt hands (usually quad aces or RFs). Usually, a small set of people end up with these big hits. After that the 1st place is often determined by the best total score in the rest of the hands. I've seen contests decided by only a few points. Going for the RF all the time will cause you to have fewer points on average in these situations. There are a few contests where this strategy does not hold. These are single line games and going for top winners is the only way to win.
