Standard Deflection (or Reflection) Techniques.
Standard Deflection (or Reflection) Techniques.1. Insult or mock others.2. Make baseless claims hoping that someone will respond to allow the use of techniques listed below.3. Complain when others point out that you're addition to content is insulting others.4. Pretend to be the victim and chastise those who you have previously insulted about insulting you.5. When others are on point, complain that Webman is not doing his job or insist that others "start with a clean slate."6. Obfuscate.7. Claim moral or intellectual superiority.8. When convenient, claim knowledge of forum posts prior to membership because of assiduous research.9. When others do research complain that there is something wrong with using the past to prove a point or something intrinsically wrong with the poster. Ad hominem infinitum. 10. Rather than take responsibility for past errors or inconsistencies, seek affirmations that others are mean, especially those who routinely provide evidence contrary to espoused views of hero (or reflections thereof).11. When direct hits are scored, change the subject or repeat techniques 1-10.

Certainly, this list may not be complete. If you recall other techniques, please feel free to supplement this catalog. Perhaps the future value of this directory will be to help us identify which technique is being used at which time.

"I enjoy reading this forum, and have for a while. Some days it's entertaining to see the back and forth between some of the regulars and the people who annoy them - some day's it's just too much. It gets hateful really, really quickly. Some topic starts out hot - wow just won a bunch - looking forward to everyone winning, then goes waaaay off course. I like to see stories of others winning because I'm living through those wins, since I seem not to hit any recently. Another way to describe some of the posts would be - boy, someone's HOT under the collar - or, gee they're getting the COLD shoulder. I saw someone saying - can't we just agree to disagree. I guess not. Another post mentioned that a topic got to page 11 really fast. It reminds me of political campaigns that start out throwing mud and end up throwing elephant dung (or some other very large creature). Go ahead - blast me. I can take it. It's not as if those sticks and stones can come through my monitor. I might sit here a little bit down and hurt by some posts, but it's ok. Tomorrow's another day. I enjoy all the stories and advice. Thank you for sharing yours with me. (I had to say this. I apologize in advance if I've hurt any one's feelings.)" I said this over a year ago and I think I worded it well then, so why rewrite it. I still enjoy all the posts, but some days I wonder why we can't just agree to disagree and move on to a jackpot story. OR - start a topic with Webman's permission that's all about sniveling, ranting, and mud slinging. Hey - it would stay "on topic"....

Hard not to agree with that mightwin. Some people go out of their way to infect a thread, and as you can see from the first post in this thread, if the person cant get the attention they crave from being rude on another thread they create one. We should all get along better and can do without the trolls.

Backslider, you picked this fight now you have to live with the consequences. not that NEW needs any defending. how could you see this working out any other way? there is a saying " dont poke the bear" you did far more than that you get what you deserve. just hope NEW gets bored and shows mercy on you.

If the shoe fitsBTW, last time I wrote this I believe I was told the easiest solution would be to just not read the the postings. There's lots of entertainment value to simple things in life.

How long until #5 when he complains to web man!

In reply to new2vp:
I think you are just stupid to
suggest such things.
Everything you say can be easily
disproved and is self evident as false.
I don't think it is right for you
to complain about these things.
Clearly this is a personal attack
on me and you should be ashamed for your behavior.
I'm surprised the web-man did not
terminate this thread and bar you from posting
Clearly this is a case of Semper
ubi sububi in caput tuum & Mihi ignosce. Cum homine de cane
debeo congredi, of course that is obvious to anyone familiar the
with the other post, which need not be restated here.
If you were a better man you would
already have realized this, but I guess you are doing the best you
can with the tools you have.
Clearly this is not an isolated
incident as your posts have carried this underlying tone for years
now...even before I joined this forum.
Not that the past is any
indication of the future. It is not your past by which I judge you,
it is your obvious lack of knowledge of the undiscovered country and
complete inability to even find its boarders on a map. It is for what you will do that you should be judged.
If anything I have said about you
is inconsistent, it is only because your blatant meanness makes it
impossible for me to think clearly. No sane person could respond to
comments like yours and be expected to think coherently. Any errors
on my part are therefore your fault for being a bully and because of
the kind caring and sensitive person I am.
If you disagree we should just
change the subject as your disagreement proves my point better than
I ever could. There are many kinds of love. The love a husband has for his wife. The love a mother has for her child. The love a boy has for his dog. The love a carpenter has for a nail, which requires repeatedly banging it on the head, hard, with a hammer for it to realize its useful potential and transition it from being only a dangerous and potentially painful nuisance if trodden upon. It is this later type of "love" I have for you.How did I do???And to this I would like to add that I only say these things because for me purple is not a color, it is round like the box of chocolates my Father used to bring when the summer snows brought the ravens to perch gently on my window pane. And if that isn't clear enough I don't know what is.~FK
