It's random folks. You can't out-think a random process. There's nothing there to out-think. Whatever you do one day will not work on a another. Some days nothing you try will help and on other days you will win no matter what you do.
 
That said, we all should do what is comfortable. If you don't like sitting at one machine, then move. If you like to get comfortable at one machine then do it. If it makes you feel good to cash out a small winner then do it.
 
Your results will be based on your play. Over time a person's results will approach the ER for the games they select using the play strategy they employ. Mental gymnastics won't change this fact, but the bottom line is entertainment value and we all should do whatever maximizes that value.

I never play quarter VP anymore. I put in 20 bucks to win 62 bucks with a 5-K 4 of a kind. Makes no sense to me. I start by putting in the same 20 bucks into a .50 machine then move up to dollars if I am hitting. I believe .50 and higher denominations hit more often than .5 to .25 machines.
