I had noticed the lowering of the pay tables the last time I was there.  Today I was talking with someone sitting next to me and he told me about the no points on the better pay tables machines.  I also noticed the Kings or Better Joker Poker machines are few and far between. The Sun has made a few blunders this year, one was closing the Cove.  The eatery was always packed.  They closed it in favor of some high-end place.  The high end place opened way after it was scheduled, and when I went today, I saw the place was dead.  The video poker debacle is another blunder.  Evidently they haven't taken a clue from Vegas where all the places catering to the high rollers are dead, the places catering to the middle class folks are jumping.

Unfortunately, the Mohegan Sun Casino is continuing to lower VP paytables. They had already ruined the quarter Bonus Poker machines by lowering the best ones from 8/5 to 6/5. They had left the 50 cent ones alone. Last week I noticed that they also ruined the 50 cent Bonus Poker machines by lowering them to 6/5 also. These were 99.1% machines before the latest fiasco. Any 9/6 Jacks or Better machines that I have found recently earn no players points. They are also replacing the cheesy and hard to read no points earned stickers with raised ones (black with white lettering). These signs aren't much larger that the prior stick on ones and some are placed where you are not likely to see them.  I found a couple of good mistakes though by walking the casino in the middle of the night when everything is dead. There are 2 nickel machines that pay the correct amount (800/1)  for the Royal with only 2 coins in. I'm sure at some point they will find these and immediately get rid of them just like they did with my favorite 10 cent deuces game that for a short time was a 99.8 % machine. The 2 cent vp games that were removed and replaced after a patron uproar were replaced with a different version and multiple denominations which is nice except the pay tables are so terrible I won't even mention the odds.

I hope that all of you who play at Mohegun Sun let them know how much you hate the no point system and that you won't play.  You know darn well that other casinos are watching to see if this works out well for them, and then will also do it if they can get by with it.

While our dream of playing Mohegan Sun is still unfulfilled I would offer the following suggestion. Contact the GM and your hosts and make sure you link this and any other forum comments about the changes to the email.

It is amazing how short-sighted most casino (corporate) leadership has become.   As long as they don't see an impact they'll continue the cost cutting to make a profit.

I agree with Pat06095 about the closing of the COVE at the Sun. Have not seen the nrw Bollo yet. They should close the high end restaurant in the lobby or at least change the menu. We new englanders are fussy about our food and do not care as my husbands puts it about californian italain food or a "green diet"
I spoke to my host about vp machines. Told her I like the points because I like shopping and if I spend between $5 and $50 per hand and do not receive points I'm not a happy camper.
I have a tendendcy to play the same machines, which so far have been lucky for me Have not seen the no point stickers yet. I certainly won't play one that does.

I recently became alarmed about the number of VP machines at Mohegan Sun starting to show the label "This machine does not award points."  So I looked online to see if anyone else was noticing this and came across this website and forum.  Great comments and advice!  Glad I found this! I contacted my casino host to complain that it's one thing to reduce the paybacks (yeah, I recognize the casinos are trying to squeeze as much profit as possible in a down economy) but it's throwing salt in the wound when you stop awarding points on so many machines, especially when I'm playing the $25 max on the dollar machines.  Here's the response from my host as of 12/29/11.  "I appreciate that you took the time to write and explain your concern.  Regarding the VP machines, the machines that have the highest odds to win have been discontinued from the point system, but over 70% of the VP machines still award points for registered play, including multi-denominational machines.  I am not aware of additional VP machines being added to the list of machines that currently do not offer points.  The decision to not award points on specific machines was not made without great consideration being given our guests and their potential reaction.  Even though points will not be earned, guests will still be rated on those games for promotional offers.  On those machines where paybacks may have been affected, the payout menus on the machines should reflect such change.  Dedicated Jacks or Better draw poker machines still have a 9/6 payback schedule.  I am not sure what changes may be done in the future regarding video poker, but I know that management appreciates it when guests send in their comments and concerns.  I will make sure to let my supervisor know about the comments you sent." So please keep writing your host and/or Mohegan Sun's CEO about your thoughts on this!

While I am now splitting my time between Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods because of the latest Mohegan Sun disasters mentioned above, I don't think you will find any quarter JOB 9/6 machines at Foxwoods or MGM (points or no points). Last I checked there are some 9/6 dollar machines at Foxwoods that do award player points. I have now found 3 nickel spin poker machines that award 1600 coins for the Royal for two coins played, but they are all at the bars at Mohegan. This is available in various games, but you won't get any with 99% plus returns. These three machines are in the 96-97% range. If you get lucky and hit the Royal great, but I wouldn't suggest playing these long term. They are fine if you just want to kill time or are on a tight budget. I have also been after Mohegan to offer 1 cent and up 50 and 100 play VP machines, but no dice so far. I have to go to Foxwoods for those and usually by waiting them out and progressing up slowly on my line bet and denomination after losing a lot of hands at the lower levels, I can do OK. The returns are only 95-97% though depending on the game and denomination selected. If you have a lot of time and I mean 8 hours or more of straight play and good discipline to hit and run, these can be fun and even turn a small profit.
