In a conversation with Roveer, an interesting thought came up.

What do you when your timing is off and your not hitting winning hands?

For example, we will change which button we hit (deal, screen, 5) , change Turbo or speed, get up go to the RR, etc.

What determines when you are "not hitting."  How long does it have to be?  10 minutes, an hour, two?  Is it a drought of quads plus? Or is it worse than that?  Maybe it comes down to how many benjis have disappeared recently?Though I've never really thought about it, my answer would be (1) play blackjack, (2) go to another casino, (3) go back to my room, (4) eat, or (5) some other activity with friends and/or significant other.  But my decision to quit is not really that attuned to how I've done; it's based on how long I planned on playing vs. doing other activities.  Though of course I prefer winning to losing, I haven't gambled for stakes that are life-changing win or lose, so I've never felt any major concern when I've lost.  And I don't often change denominations while playing video poker, though I frequently do at blackjack.To be certain, my play has been extremely limited compared not only to roveer and you, but also compared to most everyone that posts here about casino experiences; so what I've listed are characteristics of me, certainly not recommendations for others.

Good questions. When I'm not getting dealt the normal range of cards that I would expect or I am not hitting cards to keep me winning or staying even then I accept my timing is shot. Being on limited bank roll I try to not blow through say $100 if I"m not getting the normal range of quads, two pairs, deuces, big hands that keep me winning or staying even. If for example I haven't seen 3 deuces or 3 aces depending on the game within a couple of hours I try to take action.

Sometimes I move machines, sometimes games within a machine.

On a multi game machine I`ll change games. If that dosen`t work I`ll change machines. If that dosen`t work I`ll go to the room or watch my girlfriend play or go to the players lounge and hang-out.  
There are those trips when you can buy a card unless you go to the gift shop and buy the whole deck.

  That's an interesting question.  I am not one of the pragmatic ones that can just keep playing that same machine.  Sometimes I do just out of...... laziness?  But, even knowing there is no logical reason to CHANGE machines (Marie), I hate it when I don't.  Matter of fact I hate getting down more than a wild royal on FPDW for a single session.  That's all I have ever played. I prefer to not know how much I have lost because it takes away thefun, but I can't keep from constantly checking my credit total and knowing how much I'm down. But, I play well enough to expect to be a long term winner. At least by changing machines, I can maybe have a winning session, however short.  So my new goal is to have so many different sessions that I lose track of the win-loss.

In reality not at Isle, my favorite 3/5 play VP machine has been moved 3 times this year. Good thing I recorded the Machine ID # so I was able to find it.

Jim, while it may not be logical it sure can't hurt you mental frame. If I change machines and start hitting it sure helps my pocket and my mental frame.

We VP players like to feel we are in control. That is one of the attractions of VP. By choosing cards we do influence our results. However, we can never unrandomize (is that a word) the RNG. Whenever we change our timing we may just have missed hitting a big hand had we kept at the old timing. Then again, sometimes we do hit something after a change. If only ..........
 
It's kind of like trying to fool mother nature.
