I would assume that an additional part of the problem is that any contest I've ever seen in the United States requires that you be able to enter without paying ("No purchase necessary to enter"). The moment a contest requires an entry fee it becomes gambling.

I'm not currently a gold member and I did win the Halloween contest, I've been a gold member before though and plan on it again. I appreciate the gold features on the site, they let me brush up on my VP skills before heading to the casino and wagering real money.

I basically stole you original post from the lounge and moved it to Anything and Everything. That way everyone could comment on your post, not just the Gold members in the Lounge.

Well, I'm confused!  Why do gold members no longer get designated on their posts?I agree about the contests for gold members ONLY.  When I participated even the least bitin a contest, and checked the final standings to find no one I even recognized, I thought "where did all these people come from, and why have they never contributed, even if in a bad way, the least damn thing to the forum"?  I guess it helps the site in ways that make it sustainable, but it still jerked my knees.
