Re: Multimeter Progressive - Team Play
Frank, I bet I have seen you at Palms. Couple of years ago, the FPDW royal got up over$2300 and I was there at 2:30 am on a Tues. and could not get a seat. Might you have been occupying one of them?

Yes it is possible. I would have been playing two machines, since at that number playing a single machine would have been under my minimum hourly earn I consider worthwhile. That was also before I started playing at the Palms just for the food and comps. I now get about $60 and hour in comp value, and believe you me I use it to great advantage. I kidded my slot host last week that I'd have no social life if not for him. The real joke was I wasn't kidding.Being able to take a date to restaurants like NOVE, Alize and Simon's is just wonderful.

1) How
would you expect a team member to handle situations like the one
described below?I would not. I would sit by them and
tell them what to do or expect them to hold to basic strategy.2) If it was you playing rather
than a team member, would there be differences in the selections that
you would make since you might be able more easily to handle mental
calculations?Certainly I or one of my current team
partners that posses the math skills to deduce the correct play would
not be restricted by team-player rules. Team-players were not all
that savvy.
3) Would you consider all the penalty
situations, some of them, or none of them? How detailed would the
instructions (strategy sheets) be?Very, depending on how often we
played that particular progressive. All the way from a few simple
break points up to several pages of break points, charts and
correction factors.
4) Would you have strategies already
set up and practiced that would simply approximate the actual
situation that you were facing at the time?Mostly we had formulas for doing
the calculations in the casino on the fly.In answering, if it makes it easier to
visualize an example:Consider immediate expectancy. 9-7-5 DB with
4 meters on the royal and each of the 3 sets of quads and a hand that
contains A-K-J (no ten or queen) with the high cards unsuited with
each other. The best way to handle this is with breakpoints
and correction factors. You make breakpoints for the meters and then
modify those breakpoints for the other meters using correction
factors. RF vs SF is an easy one. I'll give you an example.
Let say you are dealt JT7s in 57T
Dbl BoPo.
Basic strategy says hold the JT7s.
You would break with this in the event that the RF got to 11,959
coins. This breakpoint would be further modified upwards by a
correction factor of 15 to 1. Therefore every dollar on the SF would
add 15 dollars to the RF breakpoint. A full team strategy would
include basic meter breaks with the correction factors listed off to
the side in a comparison chart. Both examples of the equations and
charts are in my book.Does that cover it?
Yes, thank you very much. This is quite clear. I think you said that the teams mostly played single progressive meters at the time. It did not seem reasonable to me that the team members could each memorize all the breakpoints and correction factors associated with a complex multimeter progressive, so your answer there seems workable and makes total sense.I saw examples in your book of charts that dealt with penalty situations. I saw an example in your book that dealt with one of three meters for a multi-meter machine (the SF meter for the Multi-Meter Mountain Bar at Harvey's). I admit I must have missed the example of a comparison chart that dealt with two meters simultaneously as you did above with the JT7 example. Nevertheless, I now think I see how you handled that situation. Lots and lots of charts for a 4-way or 5-way progressive; committing these to memory for use on quickly moving meters and adding/subtracting a couple correction factors for pertinent peripheral meters combined with adding/subtracting for multiple penalty situations would be quite a challenge for the most mathy savants. I'm guessing that, like everything, experience would allow accurate decision-making to become quicker over time. Thanks again.

frank,
I probably missed this somewhere in a previous posting but please explain your process for playing two machines at a time. For example are you alternating hands or do you play a few hands on one and then a few on the other?
Sweet C and I recently tried playing two machines each on a high DDB progressive and it was a riot. So would it be better to team tag the machine or try to play two machines at a time?
Thanks,

Thanks, I sit dead center and alternate hands as fast as they deal. While holding the cards on one machine I'm dealing the cards on the other, with little to no delay. I use a similar technique to playing chords on a piano and can hold most card combinations in a single motion with a single hand. When playing two machines I fatigue slower than when I play one, and I can play each of my two machines faster than I can one single machine due to hand position.I am only a slightly above average one machine player. On two machines, I've yet to meet anyone that plays similarly. Most two machine players only increase their total hands per hour by perhaps 50-70%. Because of my technique I get about a 105% increase in HPH. I slightly more than double my hand speed going from one to two. For this reason I rarely play one.If you have played piano, you'll know that the most difficult chords and most awkward hand position is when you have to put your hands directly in front of you. Having them off to each side is actually more natural and less strenuous. (for me)~FK

Drop me an email a few days before and I'll tell you where I'll be if I'm playing those days. I'd be happy to give you a demo and go over body position and other techniques that would reduce body strain for you. Much of what I do is less hard on the body as well as being faster. It helps if you have played the piano. And thank you for the opportunity to pass on my an aspect of my knowledge that has the potential to improve health and comfort.
