Re: Thanksgiving Thoughts
This is pathetic. A person can't even wish others a Happy Thanksgiving without it turning into a debate.

Good Afternoon FrankYour post starts off well enough with an expression of how you feel on this topic. However, I am left with a feeling that by the end of your post, you are speaking in absolutes. Meaning that everyone must love life as much as you do. And that how you feel about life is more correct than how others may feel about life.It is a nice touch for you to accept that not all people think we are a product of evolution. But it is not irreverent to Christians as to how we came to be. Again, this is an example of you speaking in the absolute. How about telling us what you think or believe. And not telling us what we should think or believe.Perhaps you are 100 % right that life is a marvelous gift. Clearly, not all people see life as a marvelous gift. I submit to you the proof of this idea in the number of abortions that occur each year in America. What do women that elect to have an abortion, generally speaking, have to be thankful for?As to the life that is snuffed out by the abortion, do you think that it has reason to be thankful?Using the about two premises, I form the conclusion that not everyone has reason to be thankful.Beyond this, I submit that each person should decide for themself if they are thankful or not. Being thankful, everyday, as you want people to be is not a right, a responsibility, a requirement, nor does it resemble reasonableness or randomness.
Good points. This post was made as a non-denominational suggestion for people on thanksgiving looking for things to be thankful for, in the event they wished to be thankful and were having trouble finding something. It assumed that they were already predisposed towards some sort of thankful thought...or that at the very least only people interested in being thankful for something would be reading a post entitled, "thanksgiving thoughts". Perhaps this was misplaced optimism. It was not my intent to tell people what to think only to offer suggestions and share what I am thankful for. There are indeed some people in this world that have nothing to be thankful and for whom life is a prolonged torture and death the only release. I did not expect any of them to have Internet and be posting on a VP forum, since playing VP is somewhat of a luxury and one could only assume that in the event a videopoker.com member's life was truly so horrible they could divert some of the gambling bankroll to make it better.Live and learn.I did not mean to imply that how we came to be is irrelevant. I meant that how we came to be need not have a 1 to 1 correlation with our ability to be thankful for life. It only changes who or what you thank.~FK

This is pathetic. A person can't even wish others a Happy Thanksgiving without it turning into a debate. That is not true and I disagree with you. Want to argue about it?~FKP.S. Hay hope you had a happy one to.

To Everyone,I know you all mean well, but sometimes it appears as if people on this forum write in order to cause a controversy. I am sad to see this. It would be nice if we all had joy in what we do and act to bring out the best in others. As hard as it is sometimes, most people deserve our respect and understanding. Individual decisions are made for many reasons. Until you are actually "walking in their shoes' please don't judge them for a decision that you think is wrong. As for my personal thanks, I am thankful for my wonderful children and grandchildren. I, like many people, have had tough times and good times throughout my life. Perseverance, hard work and a positive outlook have helped me through the tough times. Friends and family have also been invaluable; we help each other to be humane, compassionate, generous, tolerant and reasonable.I hope each of you had a Thanksgiving Day in which you could think of at least one reason you are thankful that you are alive. And, oh yes, I know many people do not have very much. Many are hurting every day, whether physically, emotionally or financially. Some are political prisoners, some are the wrong religion, some have the wrong last name, some have skin the wrong color, some are old, some are infants. I can't right all the world's illness, but I do work quietly toward solving some of them. I am thankful I have that opportunity. Many happy holidays to all of you.Opalinewoman

There have been some interesting posts on what would have been an otherwise overlooked topic. So, for the pleasure it has given to me to read your thoughts, I am thankful. Even your provocative and porgaritive thoughts are welcome.Yes, we should lighten up, as has been suggested. Poking fun at Thanksgiving with my comments was actually a way of lightening up. It however was not well received by all.Is feline57 a cat? I am tempted to make a cat joke, but I am the last person to seek out a debate or controversy. OK, that is a stretch of the truth!Christmas is just around the corner. Surely someone will start a thread on the Christmas topic as well. Then we can start the cycle over again, with randomly generated comments on a non VP topic. Everyone shall be happy to see the RNG (random nonsense generator) in use. After all, there is more acceptance of the existence of the RNG than there is acceptance in the existence of either the spirit of Christmas, symbolized by Santa Clause, or the existence of peace on earth, symbolized by Jesus Christ. But tell me, who among you have really seen this thing, the RNG that you praise, pray to and prostrate yourselves before? People with math backgrounds have such imagination. Still I wonder where the boundary is between imagination and insanity.Merry Christmas!!!

Even your provocative and porgaritive thoughts are welcome.Pejorative? Not making fun. Just guessing at what you meant. Based on what has been posted so far on this thread, I suppose you could have alternatively meant "purgative," though I seldom see a sentence requiring a word that means "bowel cleansing." Have a good holiday season! Eat smartly (so we don't need further employment of the latter adjective)!

There's always someone with an even seemingly more expanded vocabulary. Happy New Year?
