Re: Straight Flush Payoffs
Playing a lot of AC Joker will make you attuned to the SF plays. They happen quite often in DDB for me. I remember reading an article by Mr. Dancer were he noted that the 3 card SF plays were a play were he and his wife disagreed. Same in this household.

When players ask for more for the SF, what they usually mean is "and keep all the other payoff categories the same." Who wouldn't want a game that returned more? But it doesn't work that way. The total return of the game (when played perfectly) is determined by the casino. If you add 400 to the SF (which adds about 1 percent) but reduce the amount of the full house by 5 coins (which reduces the return by about 1 percent) is that really a better game? Maybe. Maybe not. IGT and other game manufacturers, along with videopoker.com and other game designers, have tried a variety of pay schedule combinations. These folks are looking for any combinations that the casinos are willing to put on the floor and the players are willing to play. Several varieties of games with other returns for the SF have been mentioned in this thread. But while Super Double Bonus, Triple Bonus Poker Plus, White Hot Aces and the others pay more the for SF, they remain niche games. They are not close to being as popular as Double Double Bonus, Double Bonus, Jacks or Better, Bonus Poker, etc. So while some players clamor for a higher return for the SF, these games are particularly popular when they do appear. Which is why you don't see more of it. Bob

yeas I get your point Bob...it is a matter of personal preference and what each of us thinks is "fun". Me personally, I would go with the elevated SF pay with a slightly reduced Full house pay simply because it is more "fun" imho.....Fullhouses are nothing special, while straight flushes are cool, so I want the machine to make a lot of noise when i hit it,,,,lol, Ok, folks, I apologize for whatever it was I said that totally shocked and offended the community, I really didnt mean to do that, i am sorry. I was just trying to be funny and not boring.....I dont even remember what I typed, but that is my personality, I like to laugh and I am a smartass. Ooops, is it ok to type "smartass"???

I agree Burglar, IMHO, the straight flush should definitely be double the current amount. That is also one of the hands more often missed by addicts, myself included! I am often surprised when it hits!
Maybe my age is showing, but I remember when the ONLY VP game available was JOB. Quads were 125, and that elusive SF was DOUBLE that - 250.
To my knowledge, the chances of Quads versus SFs in a 52-card deck has not changed since then, but the games that most of us play certainly have. With the paytables for 'premium' Quads higher in most games, the lowly SF gets left behind. Bob Dancer is correct - you can't raise one thing without lowering something else.
So, if it is any solace, the occurrence of that elusive SF still should stir your heart, even if it does not fatten your wallet.

I think everything should pay more lol. But oddly I have been getting more straight flushes than usual lately so kind of ironic topic. On my last session I got 2 a dealt one (dam should have been on a table game) and drew to an inside one.

I've always thought the 250 was pretty pathetic and archaic also.
