It worries about the long-term effects of tipping but the long-term effects of short pays are sharpie voodoo.

billy joe says he likes to refer to himself as a 'player' not a 'gambler'. The casinos do a similar thing also, they don't call it 'gambling' they call it 'gaming'. So according to the casinos lingo we could also refer to ourselves as 'gamers'

You can call yourselves whatever you prefer but it doesn't change what the activity really is which is gambling. Advantage player or not. I think people just want to feel a sense of superiority or knowledge when they label themselves or activities in other terms.

Just one cats opinion
Well, I certainly do not feel 'superior' to anyone. My notion of a 'gambler' is one that is willing to risk more than is prudent, and has to live with the consequences of the outcome. I do not fall into that category. Life goes on as before for me, whether I return from a gaming trip a winner or a loser.

You keep talking about $20 or $40 on a $2,000 Royal. What if you hit a Royal on a $1 progressive and win $5800 for example. And often there are 2 people who hand pay you who can accept tips. What do you do then?  I'll give one the tip and say share it. I'll give at least 1%. I'm there blowing my money and they're not earning much, walking all day, watching us blow our money. FYI I go to Vegas once or twice a year and gamble here at home maybe 8 times a year.  So I'm not making a living from this.

I'd still tip about $20.  I never tip multiple people.  I tip the one who shows up initially, not the stragglers who come later.

There is always more than one person doing the pay out, one to pay and one to watch.  When you tip it goes in the pot to be shared with all.  Even in Vegas when you get a "free" drink I would hope people tip the waitress, that is how they make their money. Even if you tip a dollar that is still a cheap drink.  One time we were at the MGM and I tried to take my last 5 dollars out of the machine and it wouldn't spit out, before I knew it there were 5 guys watching the one who was opening the machine. I said to to guy I hate to see how many would be here if it had been 10 dollars anyway my husband saw all these guys and came running because he thought I had really won big!!!! when I told him my 5 dollars got stuck he just rolled his eyes and walked back to his machine! That's was my first hand pay and I didn't tip that time.

Those who tip handpays only do so because of a combination of two things: one, they do not want to feel as if the people who paid them that are leaving empty-handed will look at them funny and disgusted so as to make the player feel uncomfortable (in other words, they are being intimidated); and two, because they are in a very temporary state of excitement & euphoria and are at a weak point for the handpayers to prey upon with their "gimme" stares.

Claiming their wages arent enough is nothing more than a poor excuse for being weak and an easy intimidation target. Why does anybody even care one iota what someone else is making in a job they chose to work?
