According to VPFW, given the hand 2d 2h 9s 9c 5s on 9/5 TDB 10-play, holding two pair is worth 8.4 coins per line.  Holding just the deuces is only worth 4.7 coins per line.For comparison, if you change the deuces to aces, Ad Ah 9s 9c 5s, holding just the aces is worth 10.56 coins per line, Aces and 9s, same 8.4 coins.But do what you think "feels right."  The casinos love it.
I don't know what else to say to someone who thinks it's somehow better to play 9/5 over 9/7 TDB.

[QUOTE=ginreI
like to go for a royal with three present, so long as one of these cards is the ace.   [/QUOTE]

OK, Gin, this one confused me, and needs some explaining. For example, if you have A,K,J suited, you said you would go for the RF. But if you had K,J T suited, you would not go for the RF.

Obviously, you need two in 47 cards to complete the RF in either scenario, but I do not understand your requirement for one to be an Ace? By keeping three cards of a different rank, you eliminate your quad possibilities, so the premium on the Ace is negated. The flush possibilities are the same either way, but you are limiting your straight and straight flush possibilities that way. With K,J,T suited, you can catch a Q and 9 to complete a straight or straight flush. With the ace, one side is 'closed'.

Did I miss something?

To answer Quad Dueces, for the time being, since we're heading out, break some of your own ground.  Regarding the esteemed billyjoe, tomorrow I will respond.  I am always reminded of seeing Zig Ziglar, in 1971, in Merrillville, IN, speaking to a bunch of us trying to follow a dream......he said, "The half a minders and the gonna doers wind up being the never doers".  Sharp dresser, too!  Thanks.

I actually have relatives in Merrillville, Indiana. They don't dress that sharp, though.
And for the record, I am not esteemed, once you get to know me.

Gin:          Why are you making your estimates using real money in a casino? On the hands you're talking about, software gives you 100% accurate answers --- as SM said this game is "completely solved."          Learning a game definitely requires a learning curve. A better learning curve for you woul be "learning how to learn video poker" rather than "learning TDB." The lessons you learn will be applicable to other games as well.          I suggest reading my own "Video Poker for the Intelligent Beginner," but there are other good books as well. The way you are going about it is very expensive --- yet easily corrected if you read what others have done before you. Bob
