Roveer 10/13 Royals...

Post by roveer »

We were just having a discussion about hitting multiple royals in a single trip and some thought I was hot poo for getting 2.  This trip showed that there's always room for improvement, so this time I got 3 in less than 8 hours of gambling time.  The 2nd and 3rd were less than an hour apart.  It's really strange (or just randomly random) how each visit brings different things.  There are visits where I'm fat on quads and some times it's just royals. You'll notice that one of those Royals came on Joker Poker.  This is a new game that I've had a little fascination with.  Catch some cards and it can help fill up the play till while DDB can just suck you down. We went over to Bally's to shop of our 1.15M points buying all sorts of crap gadgets for the holidays.  I was actually surprised that my points got us as much as it did.

As always, nice going Roveer. I especially like the last one, where you get nothing but the RF in ten hands - not even a pair..

Other than some new luggage that we just got, the wife and I have about all the 'stuff' we need from the TR catalog. I have been using my points for gas cards and Home Depot cards, even though you have to pay 2 for 1. I have not had to pay cash for gas or home improvement stuff in a couple of years. Feels great.

The odds of that are so low, it is evidence that the machines are RIGGED to give royal flushes and not pairs. Or that a good strategy is to make sure you don't get pairs. or... something.

Ya know I was so busy enjoying the RF I never even noticed that I didn't get sqadoosh on the other hands.  Yup, rigged.  rigged to be randomly random. With that hand and the 5OAK I had hit earlier, I've gotten all the hands on both games.  Now I just want to get one on high denom with a multiplier so i can hang it up and go play golf. Roveer

Doesn't Joker Poker pay 4700 for a natural RF?

There are three popular versions of Joker. One is a two pair game that pays 4700 for a RF, another Kings or Better pays 4000 for a RF, AC Joker (2 pair or better) pays 500 for a RF.

Rover,More great hits.  Congratulations!  Joker Poker can be a lot of fun.  I've won on it in the past at Harrah's but haven't played it in a long time.I might try it at the Beau in November - have to check their paytables first.Keep the pictures coming!

[/QUOTE]OK, I've been away too long.  Time to inject some math into the discussion.  Actually, given that there will be at least one RF, 9 non-scoring hands is the MOST likely individual outcome, making it not unusual at all.    Without knowing the two discards, we cannot know the exact odds, but the probabilities are between 0.232 and 0.287 (rounded to 3 places), making the odds between 3.31 to 1 and 2.48 to 1.Certainly it would be more likely (71% to 77%) to have at least one hand that scores
if you are not concerned with which final hand (like straight, flush,
quads, etc.) the score came from, but the probability of any other particular
combination is actually lower than this combination. The first probability (0.232) comes from discarding any non-penalty cards like a 3 and a 2 of a suit other than clubs or even a pair of 2s thru 7s; probability of a single non-scoring hand with non-penalty discards = 959/1128 or about 85%.  If a pair of Ks was tossed, the probability of a single non-scoring hand = 982/1128 or about 87%.
(959/1128)9 = 0.232; (982/1128)9 = 0.287
Edit:  Sorry, I realize that it is funnier without the math.
