Re: AC closed again!

I just talked with folks at the Borgata as I have reservations for Sunday, they said they had minimal damage and were ready to open. They are closed tomorrow but are hoping to be open on Thursday, as soon as they are told they can open they will be. Some gov't entity (city or county?) has to make the decision for the casinos to reopen, based on progression of the clean up efforts. Guess it doesn't matter if the casinos are undamaged or repaired enough to open or not if the roads aren't passable enough to drive on to get to them.

I just returned from a trip to Tunica, where it was very cold and windy, but of course nothing like what they are facing in AC now. Pictures that I have seen show the boardwalk in splinters. Even if they are able to get power up, and open the casinos, where will the customers come from and how will they and employees get there? I would imagine there are mountains of cancelled room reservations from out-of-town guests for the next several weeks, or even longer. In a struggling economy, with down revenues and stiff gaming competition from surrounding areas, I wonder if AC can EVER recover now. It is a real tragedy for everyone who lives in those areas.

Billy...............What's the scoop on Tunica? We were planning a trip there but some say that they really have let their properties go down (not much maintenance etc)
Also, how is the video poker?
Thanks for any input  you can provide

However, I did call Caesars reservations yesterday to make a rez for next week and they accepted my Nov. 5-6 request. We shall see

I was reading that the casinos themselves were pretty much good to go with just a few leaks and broken windows. AMAZING! I hope they open casue I could use a trip this weekend after the past few days of anxiety!

I just spoke to my cousin who has a friend who works at Showboat, the worst thing some of the casinos themselves have to deal with is some wet floors on ground level entrances, and with the industrial VACs and fans, the carpets should be dry by Thursday, although the smell may take a few days to dissipate (how can it be worse than SMOKEY SMOKE from the smokers?  I dunno...)  Anyhoo, the Governor or his mouthpiece in Gaming control are the only ones who can officially reopen everyone, and with the damage throughout the rest of the state, that may actually not come until FRIDAY at the soonest....the biggest issue right now is the fact that ALL rescue and law enforcement and state workers are still helping others still trapped and damaged etc.  In order for the casinos to reopen, there has to be rescue and law resources available to cover the course of business, which is not clear right now when that will be,  The AC police station wqas flooded until this morning so..... I still have reservations for November 7-8 next week, but it seems kinda silly to even be worried about that right now with the town still in shambles.  WHat is worse, it wont be nearly as fun to win from the casinos now given the harsh reality they and their employees now face economically speaking.  I'm not saying I'll feel guilty if I hit a Royal, but still, it wont be as satisfactory as before when the casinos had the upper hand.  Give it a month or two to swing back to their favor and it becomes clear they are making money again.

Leaky, on my Tunica trip, I played at Gold Strike, Horseshoe, Roadhouse and Harrah's. If you are a single-line player, of those properties, Roadhouse has the best assortment and pay tables. None of those had many, if any, VP multi-line games. I cannot speak to the other casinos in the area.
I stayed at Gold Strike, in a suite, and it was fine. The Chicago Steakhouse @ Gold Strike is top-shelf, but I did not care for the buffet, even for breakfast.
Hope that helps - good luck.

You lost me.....what is tiresome?  Smokers inside casinos?  Hurricanes?  People who open milk cartons the wrong way, thus comitting "lactomangulation"??  What.....??
