Vegas Trip - Gift Purchase

Post by BillyJoe »

Just returned from a week in Vegas. Pretty full schedule. In addition to all our gift selecting at both Caesars and MGM properties, I got in 3 rounds of golf (wifey and I @ Cascata and Shadow Creek, and then one with my Aria host @ Cascata, which since it's a Caesars' course, he had never played it), two massages, several very nice dinners (I can recommend The Homestead @ Caesars and Sirio @ Aria), and two shows - Shania Twain and the new Cirque show @ Aria, Zarkana. I was supposed to do a Meet and Greet with Shania, but she is still really apprehensive about coming back and performing live on stage. They suspended all her M&Gs until later this month to give her a better chance to settle in. We saw her on Sunday, which was only her 2nd show. Gotta go back now.

I also had a $500 Forum Shop certificate to use from my 7Star Level I Experience. The trick was, though, that you had to use it all at only one store that you selected. So I abandoned my plan of underwear buying, and opted for a nice pair of dress shoes. Now, there is no way that I would actually PAY $350 for Donald J Plinar Northern Italian Leather dress shoes, but what the heck . Rounded out the certificate with a pair of slip on casuals. Wow, do my feet look good now..

We even got in a little gaming. Fairly mediocre trip overall VP-wise. Wifey got two RFs and some nice handpays. We both had one blockbuster night over at the Mirage, but our other sessions were weaker. I got several handpays scattered throughout the week. My best was this one @ Bellagio playing Dream Card.

One thing that I noticed that appears to be coming up more and more. I get FreePlay tickets in offers at several casinos. They are limiting their use to slots, not allowing you to use them on VP. Probably not every property, but I ran into this more than once this trip.

We are gonna head back to Vegas for SuperBowl weekend, with perhaps a side-trip back to Phoenix to play some golf there also.

Just boring black shoes, Doris. I would have to wear the shoe box for anyone to know that they were that expensive.

Nice trip Billy....By the way, I just noticed that Mohegan Sun is not letting you use free play tickets on virtual one dollar roulette machines. So far, they are leaving vp alone, but any vp machines approaching full pay paytables do not earn player points. If they are worried about free play on 94% return virtual roulette games, I can only imagine how low the returns must be on regular slots. I wish they had to post those too, but that will never happen. Also I could never understand why they worry so much about vp machines. Between poor play by most players, sticky buttons, player mistakes due to fatigue, etc. etc. etc.....and our limited mental ability and desire to hit and run without putting most everythinng back in,  they must make a killing overall on vp.

Well, Olds, I am sure VP is very profitable, or they would not be there at all. I just think the casino industry understands that a person can build some proficiency in a game like VP, but there is little that anyone can do to alter their outcomes in slots. When they became aware of card-counting expertise in blackjack, for example, in came the multi-deck shoes.

For those casinos that do still accept FreePlay on VP (like most MGM properties), I can usually expect to get about a 60% return on average. So, effectively, if I have $1,000 in FreePlay, the casino actually gave me $600 in cash.

You must play a lot to get those kind of comps. I know a few Blackjack players that play a lot, and have some deep pockets. Their comps are pretty much comparable to yours. And you just play VP?
