Does the math favor single game or multi game VP....

Depends on what you mean by "the math". The expected return for the same pay table is the same no matter how many line are played. The variance is a little different.

Thanks Shadowman. I'm new to the forum and have played VP for years with some success. Just wondered if playing mulitple hands skewd the payback but as suspected only the variance is a little different...just wanted to hear it from the pro...

Multiple hand games can lead to a world of trouble unless you have deep pockets so take care.

To me you play longer but can't win anything big unless you get it dealt. I'll stick to single line. I only play it for big promotions to earn entries quicker.

Chrome,
From my experience, you are generally correct. It takes a bigger dealt hand to give the "BIG" hit like single hand. Sometimes its a choice of playing bigger denomination single hand and ending a session early or enjoying the longer play of multi-hand lower denomination.

I dont care what anyone else says, multi line ganes absolutely do NOT play like single line games. From my own experience and from watching others, multi line games deal CRAP hands on a far far greater frequency and proportion than do typical single line game versions of the same game. And it is not hard to understand why.....the casinos, who HATE VIDEO POKER TO BEGIN WITH, are not going to risk the exposure of frequent large payouts or even large "hit and run" payouts from players who sit down and play a few hands and hit a good payout and up and leave..... I recently played at the TAj mahal, and played both the multi line dream card and the QUICK QUADs multi line game......I played a lot and lost a lot, the machines simply do not deal SQUAT!!! Now I compared that to the SINGLE LINE versions of both those games available at Caesars, and the single line games, while not making me rich, DID pay out a decent amount of the time, the results seemed far more "legit". Put it this way.....I have "DREAMCARDED" 5 Royal flushes ON THE DEAL in the last 9 months on the single line version game and caught one or two more Royals drawing after the initial deal, but having played actually MORE hands on the multi line version of dreamcard, I have NEVER EVER been "dreamcarded" a royal nor have i gotten one on a draw on ANY of the lines! And the reason is obvious.....the multiline machines would be shelling out 5 or 10 grand MINIMUM per dreamcard dealt royal, so the casinos calibrate the setup menus accordingly to "WEIGHT" the results generated by the RNG .... Both Quick Quads and dreamcard, the multi line versions, with their extra coin requirements, are tributes to GREED by both the casinos and the idiot players (me included) who play them......they are gimmicks, nothing more. The single line versions of Quick Quads and Dreamcard are "fun" enough to justify the extra money and they dont quite have the impetus to cause the casinos to rig the machines.

Hmmm... well, I think you are wrong about that, but I know I will not change your mind. Your results in the limited play you have experiences would probably turn a lot of people off from teh game. But I know those big hits happen... people have posted them here. See billyjoe's multi-line dealt royals for many tens of thousands of dollars and you know it can happen. I think you've had some bad luck in your multi line play.

Last week, when I went to the casino, one of the first things I saw was an acquaintance sitting at a machine awaiting a $20,000 hand pay for a 10 line 50c dealt royal. The casino person who rigs the machines must have missed that one. Come to think of it, that same individual was dealt a $9000 royal earlier this year on a spin poker machine. I guess they missed that one too..
