Queen Jack Ten

Post by bobbipaul »

If the hand is QC 3H JD 2H 10D.  The practice sessions says I should keep the QJ  then other times it says I should just keep the QJ10.  I just don't get it.if QC 3H 2D AH 10D do I keep the 10 or toss it.  How do I decide when to keep the 10

It would be helpful to know what game is involved, and what the pay table is.

The most common game where unsuited QJT is held is Double Bonus. The reason is the game pays 25 credits for a straight rather that 20 on other games betting 5 coins. Keep in mind that if QJ is suited then the ten is discarded even in this game.

I don't mean to be rude, but neither of you answered my question.  Since I said I was playing a practice session (found right here on videopoker.com), how do I find out what I'm playing?   Secondly, I'm a pure neophyte so the first poster responded in pure jibberish in answering me.  All I want to know is when the proper time to keep the 10 is because I don't get when that time is.

wow!  my grandmother always used to say "you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar"  this will probably sound like jibberish to you also.Anyways,There are a lot of helpful people here but we need a little more information.  somewhere on the practice window, it should indicate what game you are playing, if you cannot find that, start over and remember what game you clicked on to get to the practice session.

I keep a small notebook and a pen right next to my computer and I write things down in case I can't remember what game I'm playing. Getting old really plays tricks on my memory.

But like my sainted Grandmother Rosannadanna used to say: "It's always something."

If you're looking for an instant answer to every Video Poker question, you are playing the wrong game.   Every game and every pay schedule has a different strategy.  I would give you an answer, but my crystal ball is not working today...

No apology needed whatsoever! Let's just cut through the jibberish and answer the original poster's question with straight forward, sound information in a context that will directly provide the requested response:

ALWAYS HOLD THE 10!
No matter what game you're playing, no matter what the other dealt cards are, ALWAYS HOLD THE 10!

Because the paytable is paramount to your question, it is necessary to know what game version. That is, Jacks or Better, Double Bonus etc. etc. Your sample hand you posted holds the unsuited ten if the game version pays 5-1 for the straight as Shadow mentioned. Suited ten is obvious. Strategy doesn't change with multi-line games, only the paytable.
