Video Poker Paytables

Post by Rayser »

How do you convince casino's to increase their paytables on VP machines?  Would it be advantageous for them to do that? Here is the problem, I live in the midwest (no I do not want to move) and the video poker paytables are disgusting at best.  The casino's are doing quite well, they seem to have plenty of patrons who are playing those video poker machines. So there probably is no incentive for them to increase the pay tables.  The only thing I can think of, is the power of advertising for them, and the ability to get more customers by advertising machines paying 99% or 100+% payback. Is there more that someone can do than just writing a suggestion on their website?

I have been known to have a bit of a 'pushy' personality , so I have gotten to know a lot of the executive decision-makers at the casinos that I frequent. I will tell you what happened at The Palace, a casino in Biloxi, MS.

I first played there due to an invite from my old Grand host that had moved over there. She gave me their Premier Card status as an incentive for me to come over and play. When I went over to play, I found little VP other than single line. In fact, there was only one machine that I found that I would play.  I met and had several conversations with the casino manager. The casino is privately-owned, and the owner had given the manager a free hand with the games. The manager had originally thought he could attract patrons with attractive VP pay-tables, and had several multi-line, favorable EV machines installed. He told me that the casino got killed on those machines over the course of several months. As a result, they were taken out, and currently, you cannot use earned FreePlay on VP.

There is probably a 'tipping point' for casinos as far as attracting business and being profitable. They are out to make money, so they want profitable business. If you want to see change, talk with the casino manager, and try and make a case for getting better returns on their VP pay tables. If they have little play on some machines, suggest that the manager start with those, and see what impact better pay tables on those machines would have on their bottom line.

Great idea.  I quess you would need a casino manager that is open to suggestions and willing to try a test period.  Seems like if they raised some of the pay tables, and advertised it, more people would come to the casino.  They wouldn't have to point out which actual machines have the favorable pay tables, let the astute VP players find them.  I think there are a great many players that would not even know what to look for, nor would they know the correct strategy, they just saw that billboard indicating that there was video poker paying out around 100%. I will give it a try.  probably will be like peeing into the wind though

I have tried this with management at Mohegan Sun in Ct. with limited success. They do have 99% paytables now, but do not pay player points on them. I have noticed that 9 out of 10 players pay no attention to paytables at all. In addition, they never look at the signs on the machines that tell you no points are payed. When I point out the sign to them most of them get up and leave. They usually thank me. That also helps me because it opens up another machine I may want to play later. On the machines that do pay points now, you have to cycle through 400 dollars to get one point, so it is not worth giving up the better paytable to play a 96 % machine for a couple of bucks in points.
